It's a pity that today in TN there are leaders who even question the link of Vande Mataram with our land and culture. In 1907, Bharathiyar translated Bankim Chandra's Vande Mataram, with a notable revised stanza published in his pamphlet Swadesa Gitankal. As a journalist and editor of journals like India and Vijaya, he promoted Vande Mataram. Bharatiyar's song "Vande Mataram enbom" became a an anthem in Tamil Nadu, often used in protests. Here is a small glimpse of his Vande Mataram sung by Ranjani Gayatri

The diktat from the Bangla Birodhi Zamindars that MPs cannot say ‘Jai Hind’ or even ‘Vande Mataram’ in Parliament is an attack on the very soul of our democracy. ‘Vande Mataram’ is our national song. ‘Jai Hind’ is the slogan of every Indian. These are not empty words; they were the cries of those who fought and sacrificed for our freedom. To try and erase them is to try and erase our history. Is this what they mean by governance, silencing the voice of a state that has always stood for democracy, secularism, and the unity in diversity of our country? Bengal is not outside India. The newly appointed V D Satheesan Government in Kerala denied permission to recite the full version of Vande Mataram during the first Assembly session held today. By cutting short the National Song, the Government has also violated the recent guidelines issued by the Union Home Ministry regarding the proper recitation of Vande Mataram. Congress has once again shown that it is willing to compromise on national sentiments for political or minority appeasement. Vande Mataram is not merely a song; it is an emotion that awakened patriotism and sacrifice in millions of Indians during the struggle for independence. It reveres Bharat Mata as the embodiment of Sri Durga and Sri Saraswati, symbolising strength, wisdom, and devotion to the motherland. A Government run by elected representatives, who take oath to uphold the Constitution of India and its national values, has no moral right to disregard such guidelines and undermine the sentiments attached to Vande Mataram. Any attempt to dilute or selectively curtail it for political appeasement is unfortunate and unacceptable. It is deeply disappointing that a party which once led the freedom movement is now ignoring the very spirit that inspired generations of patriots. Those occupying constitutional positions must act in a manner that respects the nation’s heritage, constitutional spirit, and patriotic traditions. #VandeMataram Rajeev Chandrasekhar 🇮🇳
