Under our 1949 rule, they must have basic knowledge of Marathi, but they have not been speaking Marathi until now. So, we made a new rule that if someone does not have basic knowledge of the language, our department officials have been instructed to take legal action against them... After August 15, if anyone does not know Marathi, legal action will be taken. First, they will be given a three-month grace period, after which their licence will be cancelled, and if they still do not know Marathi, their permit will be cancelled. This is Maharashtra's culture, our tradition. If you do not agree to assimilate into it, then legal action against you is certain.”
