WHAT HANDGUN DID GARDAÍ RECOVER? I have examined the clearest individual frames from this video rather than relying upon the moving image. The object recovered from the bin is almost certainly a magazine-fed, self-loading pistol. Its rectangular slide, polymer-style frame, trigger-guard profile, grip geometry, and apparent absence of an external hammer are most consistent with a Glock-pattern, striker-fired handgun. The Glock 17 and compact Glock 19 are the leading possibilities. Numerous pistols, including the Smith & Wesson M&P, CZ P-10, Walther PPQ/P99, and Springfield XD/HS2000, share broadly similar silhouettes. The video therefore cannot establish the precise manufacturer or model. My assessment: • Self-loading pistol: approximately 95% • Glock-pattern design: approximately 60% • Glock 17/19 family specifically: approximately 55% combined Nor can the calibre be identified visually. A Glock 17 or 19 would ordinarily be chambered in 9×19mm, while the similarly shaped Glock 44 uses the much smaller .22 Long Rifle cartridge. Replicas, blank-firers, converted weapons, and numerous Glock copies must also remain within the range of possibilities until the recovered object is examined. The significance of a Glock-pattern weapon is its intentionally simple operating system: lightweight construction, few external controls, a consistent trigger mechanism, internal safeties, and a detachable magazine. These characteristics make the platform straightforward to handle, although the condition and operability of this particular object remain unknown. Small calibre must never be confused with harmless. Even a .22 LR projectile striking the torso can penetrate deeply enough to damage organs or major blood vessels, produce serious internal bleeding, permanent disability, or death. The entrance wound may appear comparatively small while concealing grave internal injury. The responsible conclusion is therefore precise but limited: this appears most likely to be a Glock-pattern semiautomatic pistol, possibly within the Glock 17/19 size class. Only examination by the Garda Ballistics Section can establish its make, model, calibre, functionality, provenance, and whether it has previously been discharged.
