I first visited years before the "Visitor Centre" was put up. Skara Brae was just along a path by the sea. I came to it & felt a lump in my throat - it was as though the occupants had just popped out, at least that's how it felt. I'd never felt so in touch with folk from history.

It looks remarkably similar to carn euny in Penwith.

@weenell3 Awesome 🏴

Been on my bucket list to visit for decades, one day I’ll make it up there.

@Ay_Blinkin @MattCon90191238 have you been?

I imagine watching the last folk leave there. Who was the last person to sleep there before it was abandoned for thousands of years and covered by sand I wonder.

I crawled through that low tunnel: an eery moment.

Another vicarious delight via high-tech delivery. Thank you!

Thank you! Such an amazing place.

Coolest archeological find.

@KPW1453 Great place!

We went there on a windswept day with faint snowflakes in 1985 on our honeymoon. No placards, paved walkways, or Visitor Centre. Just us, the ruins, the wind, and the sea and sky. (It's such a wonderful memory we have purposely not gone there again after so much has changed.)

Sounds perfect.

Fantastic !!

wild how well preserved it is, feels like you’re looking straight into everyday life from 5k years back
