An aircraft's STOL performance is its ability to: -> Take off and clear a 50-foot obstruction from 1,500 feet away -> Stop within 1,500 feet after crossing a 50-foot obstacle on landing. STOL (Short Take Off and Landing) aircraft are fixed-wing aircraft that can take off and land on runways that are shorter than conventional aircraft. Most STOL aircraft use runways that are no more than 500 feet long, which is about 10 times shorter than the average runway.
