If this wasn't a TD then every time the player drops the ball thinking they are already across the goalline is a TD. It's a mistake made that was costly for something stupid. You have to make sure the ball crosses the goalline. Just like you have to make sure to take a knee....

By the rules it was 100% a live ball and TD.

“Let’s interject some common sense here…” might be the worst announcing I’ve ever heard. The rules are clear on how a player signals he’s giving himself up so there’s no confusion when it happens.
