The Knicks could keep their core together for the next 3-5 years IF Karl-Anthony Towns and Josh Hart are willing to take a pay cut, per Brian Windhorst KAT is eligible for a 4-year, $272M extension. "If Karl Towns is willing to take a little bit of a haircut, you know, $7-10 million over the course of multiple seasons and Josh Hart is also extension eligible this summer, if both of them are willing to take a little bit of a haircut, you could see this core staying together for three, four, five years."

The Storyline of a Knicks vs Cavs Eastern Conference Finals would be pretty insane When you consider both teams were built in the aftermath of the Donovan Mitchell Sweepstakes in the summer of 2022. The Cavs acquired Donovan Mitchell from the Utah Jazz after talks broke down with Leon Rose. Leon, who already signed Jalen Brunson, pivoted to extending RJ Barrett and delayed his search for a superstar for another time. That SAME YEAR, the Knicks beat Donovan Mitchell and the Cavs in the playoffs. The Knicks officially become Jalen Brunson’s team and start building the roster around him. Trading RJ Barrett and Immanuel Quickley for OG Anunoby. In the following offseason, trading 5 firsts for Mikal Bridges and trading Julius Randle and Donte Divencenzo for Karl Anthony Towns to complete the build around Jalen Brunson. All of this was done in the aftermath of Leon Rose “failing” to acquire Donovan Mitchell in 2022. Now, 4 years later, Leon and the roster he built can prove he made the right decision by building around Jalen Brunson instead and get to the NBA Finals. On the other side, you have Donovan Mitchell, who would be playing in his first conference finals. On Towns: "I thought the two biggest plays of the game were KAT's offensive rebound late in the game. Commentators would relentlessly tell everyone that Jalen was “TOO SMALL” to win against the top tiers. Yet here he stands as MVP with the rest of one of the greatest relentless Knick teams ever assembled against their star player being the opposite of TOO SMALL… they now CHAMPIONS. Jalen shows you how important humility… work ethic & family who believe in you are for an individual. Brunson is everything you want to see in an athlete as an example for youth and the reason he is so successful is not just talent but COMPOSURE. He is one of the most stress resilient emotionally controlled athletes I have ever seen as a life long New York sports fan. I think the most important variable to the Wolves' offseason puzzle is what Julius Randle or what Rudy Gobert could be traded for. That information feels like a pre-requisite to any meaningful deal. Because any big trade, including the Giannis one we go through below, all but requires that one of Randle or Gobert are involved in the trade, or moved in a subsequent trade. And I think a big complicating factor in the Wolves pursuit of Giannis specifically is that Giannis is likely the first domino of the offseason -- with everything else coming after that. Meaning: The trade market for Randle and Gobert should become a lot clearer *after* the Giannis decision is made. Is it possible to have that all mapped out? It's not impossible. The word I've been using going back to the trade deadline is complicated -- very complicated. I would guess the ultimate Giannis trade, if the Wolves were involved, would feel like two or three big deals wrapped up into one 4- or 5-team trade.

In my opinion, Tarris Reed Jr. (UConn) would be the most seamless fit for the Knicks in the 2026 NBA Draft. The Knicks have the 24th & 31st pick and have more than enough access to target Reed Jr on the board. There’s even potential for them to move back from 24, acquire more draft capital and still get Reed Jr. Here’s why I love the fit. From a position of need standpoint, he’s a legitimate plug and play NBA Center who can log 10-15 minutes right away. There’s a possibility that the Knicks lose both Mitchell Robinson and Ariel Hukporti to free agency. Reed Jr. comes from a winning program in UConn played for winning obsessed coach in Dan Hurley played in the Big East, which aligns with the Knicks core mentality. In Matchups vs Lottery prospects in the tournament, there were legitimate times where he was the most productive player on the floor. Reed Jr. is a throwback big, bodies dudes in the paint, good touch around the rim. Nice bag that can only improve. UConn is the farthest thing from a iso offense, but Reed jr, bailed them out time and time again with post touches, a look the Knicks don’t really feature and can open up more diversity in their offense. From a scheme standpoint, the Knicks could actually play some high low concepts with Towns and Reed Jr. In addition, Reed Jr, projects to be a really good rebounder and will end possessions on defense and extend possessions on offense. The main concern for me is his versatility on defense, as it relates to being switchable on the perimeter. Day 1? Won’t be anywhere near what Mitch’s ability on film. Mitch is a guy that blocked Kevin Durant on the perimeter, closed out to the whole Boston Celtics team on one possession in game 6, and got a hand up on Wemby at the end of Game 2 in the NBA Finals. Simply put, if the Knicks lose Mitchell Robinson, they cannot replace him. However, I think Reed jr. will adapt to the needs of the NBA game in his own way, which will make him at least serviceable when playing out of drop coverage. There’s also the reality that Reed jr. isn’t a modern day stretch big that’s going to space the floor. While It’s not an accomplishment, I do think he has some more potential than Robinson/Hukporti to step out in space and knock one down eventually. All in all, these are the reasons Tarris Reed Jr. is a slam dunk pick for the Knicks in the 2026 nba draft - Position of need - Rotation player on a rookie deal - Winning Player - High Motor - Plug and Play From Day 1

Mitch is a guy that blocked Kevin Durant on the perimeter, closed out to the whole Boston Celtics team on one possession in game 6, and got a hand up on Wemby at the end of Game 2 in the NBA Finals. Simply put, if the Knicks lose Mitchell Robinson, they cannot replace him. However, I think Reed jr. will adapt to the needs of the NBA game in his own way, which will make him at least serviceable when playing out of drop coverage. There’s also the reality that Reed jr. isn’t a modern day stretch big that’s going to space the floor. While It’s not an accomplishment, I do think he has some more potential than Robinson/Hukporti to step out in space and knock one down eventually. Knicks fans screaming about the league not retroactively upgrading Victor Wembanyama’s foul should actually be counting their blessings tonight. Why? Because while they were focused on Wemby, I'm told the NBA league office was reviewing this entire bench clearing sequence and specifically the actions of Jose Alvarado who previously served a major three-game suspension for having been involved in a nearly identical bench-clearing incident in 2024 against the Miami Heat. When the scuffle kicks off under the basket, several Knicks players leave the bench area in violation of the rules and Alvarado gets right in the middle of the scrum. He is seen pushing, heavily engaged with both Luke Kornet and De'Aaron Fox, waving his finger and escalating the tension getting face to face with Fox.
