SHOULD YESHIVA MOVE TO D1?

No. Yeshiva University moving to Division I makes little sense. Its small undergraduate population, lack of Division I facilities and infrastructure, and no obvious conference fit would force the university into a massive and ongoing financial commitment. The transition could require tens of millions of dollars upfront, followed by millions more each year for scholarships, coaching and administrative staff, compliance, recruiting, travel, sports medicine and facility upgrades. And for what? There is no clear revenue stream, no obvious institutional benefit and no compelling reason to believe Division I would meaningfully advance the university’s mission. Division III already fits YU’s size, resources and structure far better. Moving up simply because Division I sounds more prestigious would be an expensive, operationally burdensome decision with little apparent upside.

Does the D stand for Davening

They do not have the budget for D3, let alone D1. And they are already non-competitive in many sports at D3, and they would no longer be competitive in men's basketball and the rest of sports in D1. In addition, they are a very small school that draws talent from a limited pool.

As incredible as that would be, it’s just never going to happen. Like, I’m not sure how football would work.

Athletics departments at least to my knowledge don't function off if the schools endowments. They operate as their own area with budgets etc.

I thought that schools needed to be able to give full athletic scholarships to qualify

And not to mention the facilities

I mean listen I never said it wouldn't need significant donor backing I think that's where ideals come into play more for this than anything else. Lots of programs have facilities because of donors. But would I say there is a financial reality they could make the switch without them. No

Dude I wish YU had Division I basketball, but I have close family on the faculty. I don’t think the financial situation would allow it to happen sadly

YU has other funding issues, those need to get fixed before any of this would happen 😭
