@DKThomp @ezraklein I think we will see a lot of American industry spin back up. We didn't close lumber mills, because of a lack of trees. We didn't scale back gypsum quarries because we where running out of raw materials. And we are seeing car manufacturing coming back.

When we were young, we lived in council estates that had taps running and organic kitchen gardens to grow home food. An orphaned child would be taken care of by the extended family, and watched over by the larger society. The nostalgia that permeates much of today's Kenya is no accident. We have lost faith in the future that once powered our optimism. We fight over what we have instead of what we can grow together. I recommend the mind-blowing book 'Abundance', by Derek Thompson and Ezra Klein. It will change your life.
