Shuttles returning from "space" are faked using a large glider that looks like a shuttle. The glider is lifted by a helicopter to a high altitude and then dropped and remotely piloted to the landing zone. 🚀

@MrFin That doesn't look like any space shuttle I've seen. I'm more apt to think it is a test of some kind on a new shuttle. 🤷‍♂️

Space is fake & gay, but that thing doens't look like a "real" shuttle. Could be a pilot training vessel.

Space is fake and just a dream, but this was SNC's Dream Chaser vehicle glide test.

Can you explain the sonic boom that occurs during the "gliders" re-entry? I remember that happening when I lived in LA in the 80's...shuttle re-entered, and sonic boom. Can you do that with a helo??

That’s not even the current shuttle design , likely a test for a future version. Most of these posts of “proof” are always test runs of actual events. They do practice these things. Heck my kid has t-ball practice weekly and he can’t even drive yet.

This is very likely an aerospace test of the said glider. A CH-47 helicopter would never reach a high enough altitude to pull this off unnoticed.

Ha..and ppl think this went to outer space!!These are so fake, it's hilarious!!!

After reentering Earth's atmosphere at hypersonic speed, the Space Shuttle had no engines to help it land. Once it dropped out of orbit, it became a heavy glider, relying only on gravity, aerodynamics, and the pilot's precision. There were no second chances. The shuttle had a steep descent, a narrow landing window, and just one shot at the runway.

In Russia, a military Mi-8 helicopter made a hard landing right on a highway The helicopter was returning from a flight to organize early voting in hard-to-reach areas. On approach to the airfield, it began losing altitude sharply, and the pilot made an emergency landing.

When you're a 100-ton unpowered glider with the aerodynamic profile of a brick, "landing" is really just a high-stakes conversion of kinetic energy into heat and friction. At 320 mph, Atlantis executes its "pre-flare" maneuver; a critical pitch adjustment to bleed off velocity and increase lift. From the deployment of the drag chute to the final nose-gear touchdown, every second is a masterclass in managing the transition from orbital mechanics to subsonic aerodynamics. At the fundamental level, the Shuttle program was a 25-year experiment in defying the laws of drag and gravity to bring humanity home from the vacuum of space. Credit: NASA/Space.com

The Hotspur glider BT665 flew across the Irish Sea towed by a Whitley from Netheravon to Northern Ireland in 1942 trials piloted by a King's Dragoon Guards staff sergeant. The test proved long range towing with a phone link in the tow rope. Never used in combat it trained Glider Pilot Regiment pilots until most were scrapped after the war with only a few preserved. 🫡

"The Space Shuttle was, literally, a hypersonic unpowered glider during final approach. From reentry to touchdown, a single chance. Runways like Edwards AFB were chosen for their enormous length and lateral margin, essential for a vehicle with a high approach speed, a very poor glide ratio and zero possibility of go-around or escape. The approach was performed with a very steep profile (~19°), far steeper than that of a commercial airplane, to dissipate energy quickly. The landing gear was lowered just seconds before touchdown for a critical reason: To reduce drag during gliding and avoid structural loads. There was no Plan B..." 🚀 It looks like a scene from a movie… but this is real technology. The New Shepard capsule landing vertically shows the incredible level that space engineering has already reached.

Elon Musk thinks America’s space program stopped moving forward after the Moon landing. We went from landing humans on the Moon with Saturn V to a Space Shuttle that was limited to low Earth orbit, and eventually retired. Musk’s frustration is simple: we were supposed to be on the Moon and heading to Mars by now. Instead, he says, space exploration went backwards.

Europe is getting serious about space. The Exploration Company just completed a major drop test of its reusable Nix space capsule, designed to carry cargo (and eventually astronauts) to low Earth orbit. The capsule was lifted by a Chinook helicopter to 9,100 feet before testing its parachute deployment sequence. Watching a future spacecraft dangling from a military helicopter is pretty cool.
