This attack did not come out of nowhere. The Albanese government was warned repeatedly about rising antisemitism, with 2,000+ attacks reported since October 7th, 2023. When calls to gas Jews and Hamas flags are tolerated in public, violence is inevitable. Seventeen people are dead, including a Holocaust survivor. This is a failure of leadership.

Just weeks after October 7th, UN Secretary-General António Guterres said that while he condemns Hamas, the brutal Hamas attack did not happen “in a vacuum.” This is a form of denying October 7th, essentially framing it as a justified response. Francesca Albanese has repeatedly stated, including to President Macron, that Hamas’s actions were a response to repression by Israel.
