The 24h delay "to protect from scammers" is just an excuse to inhibit user choice, it's common for scammers to call back the next day. No, victims don't discuss this with others much. Scammers will have a cover up story.

Fuck off, We want the Android as it is now and NO CHANGES NEEDED. You are just pretending to allow sideloading at this point.

Sounded good up until this point. Limited distribution accounts. Limited number of devices.

I am actually on Google's side on this one. The sheer number of scams happening by sharing APK over WhatsApp or Telegram is insane, and the folks who are not tech-savvy are falling victim the most.

Stop calling it sideloading. It's just installing software, like you would on PC.

This is a step in the wrong direction but you will learn like BlackBerry and Nokia.

I'm NOT going to wait 24H just to be able to decide what I WANT to do with MY OWN phone that I PAID FOR

bullshit, this is a very anti-consumer decision.

What the fuck is sideloading? You are forcing users who bought and own a phone to wait 24 hours before they can install an app? Are you fucking crazy?

You really are "evil". You're effectively banning software written by anonymous authors, for example stuff that lets people evade controls by draconian government regimes. In practise, there's no point writing software if there's zero chance of anyone actually using it.

The one that pressure US is Google, No one asked for this, I don't want all of that to install a software Application on a device I own, 24H WTF, multiple warnings, also for unverified devs why its limited to 20 devices, Other platforms allow installation for unverified sources.

Now what's next ? Turning on developer options need government issued id? . You guys are turning like ios and apple. Android freedom is fked

it is not sideloading,it is called installing whatever the fuck i want

While this is better and I commend you for listening to feedback, it still feels like an unnecessary change when we've been able to sideload without restriction for so long. It's a core thing about Android. Waiting 24 hours is crazy. It's MY phone. I should be able to install anything I want like I do on my PC without arbitrary limits. And now I have to wait 24 hours every time I upgrade my phone so the first day with my new phone I can't even use all the apps I normally do? I hate this. I don't mind an extra step to enable developer settings and turn on sideloading - still think it's unnecessary, but at least that part is simple enough. But the wait period is asinine.

Honest question—maybe this thread or @Android can answer it: why call it “sideloading” when it’s just installing an app on your own device, like you would on any PC or Mac?

24 to wait ? You guys better change that asap cause wtf

24 hours is insane.

Nah man. If this implemented in my country. Im changing to iPhone fr fr.

You want to say people are stupid, so you have to control their devices. That's disrespectful for Android users at the first place.

Honestly, i appreciate this feature Huge props for listening to the users and changing the original plan of only allowing installation of verified sources And i think it's a good idea to add more guard lines to sideloading

This is the shit decision. From day one i prefer android any day. But if you are seeing mein using another OS than android then it's a shame for @Android @AndroidDev

thank god adb workflow still stays the same

I don't need your security, gfuself google.

Here's a simpler to understand post regarding the same, incorporating the technical and usability parts:

You could ask about this during the out of box setup and not have any moral hazard. Simple question to block unsigned applications for 24 hours. Instead this is being forced on everyone. Don't expect us to be happy about it. Don't expect us to not keep talking to regulators.

Fuck you

My guy, it's not Google's job to consent if I wanna install an APK on my phone or not. I should not require to reboot my phone and wait 24 hours to install an unverified APK. You are killing the Android Open-Source world and bringing monopolistic predatory behavior on Android.

This is Android's new 'advanced flow' for INSTALLING apps without verification". Sideloading is such a bullshit term made only to confuse consumers. They can wrap that in sparkling wrapper, but it's still security theater at best and definetly misleading. Apps from F-Droid or any other app 'store' are not any less safe than the ones at googles own offering.

New day - new prohibitions. Just implement a disclaimer and that's it... why make things more complicated for advanced users 🫠

This (making it harder to sideload anonymous applications) is a f****** bad idea. The only winners are fascist governments. If I write an app to let women find abortion providers? An app to notify people about illegal ICE raids? ... I become vulnerable. People lose. shame!

Please do something about custom ROM strong integrity check as well, custom ROM is the reason that made android what android is today don't forget it. Do something about that as well @AndroidDev @Android @googledevs

@google Then why the fuck we developers should pay $25 to register as an verified publisher , if we are not using playstore as publishing service why the fuck we should pay - it's just an tactics to get the money 🤑 - it's not about security it's all about money
