Done. I'm sure it will garner the same outcome as every other time I've done this. Two in my district will wholeheartedly agree, and the other one will vote with their party, and Olympia will do what Olympia does.

Sent my comment to. I oppose this. If existing regulations are not enough, adding more won’t fix anything. It’s not the law-abiding folks who are the problem.

Committee Sign In - Remote Written Testimony Registration Thank you for submitting your written comments on E2SHB 1163 Firearm purchase. Your comments will be made available to legislative committee members and staff of the committee, and will be included in the legislative record for bill and meeting archival purposes, but will not be used as part of testimony summary materials on the bill report. The text of your submission is below: As a 70+ year old female living in rural Pierce County, I oppose 1163. Research, like the National Research Council’s 2004 study, shows no clear link between extra permitting and lower crime—why should I suffer for a law that won’t stop the lawless? This bill ignores better solutions. Out here, we need faster police response times, better mental health outreach, or tougher action on illegal gun trafficking—not more rules for folks already following the law. The FBI’s background check system already flags prohibited buyers; fix its gaps instead of piling on regulations that don’t reach rural realities. My late husband and I raised a family here relying on common sense, not bureaucracy—lawmakers should do the same. As an older rural woman, I worry about the bill’s vagueness. Who decides if I’m “fit” for a license? Some city official who’s never lived where coyotes howl at night or where a stranger on your porch could mean trouble? Discretionary systems have historically been used to deny people like me—women, seniors, or rural folks—our rights. I’ve seen enough in 70 years to distrust handing that kind of power to conclusion, this bill threatens my rights, my safety, and my independence. It’s a one- size-fits-all idea that doesn’t fit the life I’ve built here. It won’t stop crime but will make it harder for me to protect myself. I urge lawmakers to reject it and focus on real fixes that respect rural lives like mine.
