We discussed key areas of engagement between Ukraine and the European institutions: support for Ukraine’s EU accession negotiations and the importance of opening the first cluster as soon as possible; sanctions against Russia and the adoption of the EU’s 19th sanctions package; Russian assets; as well as social issues: the construction of shelters for schools and Europe’s support for our program of free meals for all Ukrainian schoolchildren. We count on the EU’s substantive involvement in these matters. We welcome the opening of the European Parliament Office in Ukraine, which will strengthen coordination between our parliament and the European Parliament. Thank you for all the support. Today, I am glad to welcome the President of Cyprus, Nikos NikosChristodoulides, to Ukraine on his first visit. This visit comes shortly before Cyprus assumes the EU Presidency in January. We see it both as a sign of support for Ukraine and as a signal of our shared readiness to continue working together – for the benefit of both our states and all of Europe. I briefed the President on the situation in Ukraine, and we held a detailed discussion of our shared European agenda. Europe is now shaping a new global role for itself – all the events that have been taking place for almost four years now show that Europe’s role must be truly strong and effective. I am grateful to Cyprus for its support at the political level, including with regard to the negotiations on Ukraine’s EU membership. We expect the coming months to bring more progress in Ukraine’s path toward the European Union, and Cyprus’s Presidency can become significant in terms of opening clusters for Ukraine and enabling other necessary decisions. Today, at the 37th Ordinary Session of the AU Assembly of Heads of State and Government, I highlighted these gains. Also, I urged the Assembly to join us in condemning Ethiopia’s expansionism, which doesn’t only breach our sovereignty but also the laws of the AU.

Today, together with the First Lady Olena Zelenska / Олена Зеленська, we officially opened the new building of the Ukrainian Embassy in Ankara. The project was approved back in 2019, and the construction of the embassy walls progressed as the cooperation between our countries continued to grow. It is highly symbolic that this new embassy reflects a new level of our strategic partnership. Today, at the embassy, I also met with representatives of the Ukrainian community in Türkiye. I am grateful to the entire team working on such important and positive relations. 🇺🇦🇹🇷

Today in Odesa, on the day of our Naval Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, we express our gratitude to all our naval warriors and engage in negotiations to ensure that Ukraine’s Defense Forces, including our Navy, receive even greater capabilities. We also welcomed the new Ministers of Defence and Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands, as well as the new British Secretary of State for Defence. I informed them about the situation on the battlefield, and there was a briefing from Vice Admiral Neizhpapa, the Ukrainian Navy Commander. We will continue to strengthen the Ukrainian fleet together with the UK and the Netherlands. There are promising new developments in our cooperation. We also discussed strengthening our air defense systems, which remains an absolute priority, and I am grateful for the willingness to take the next steps, particularly regarding the F-16s.
