@danbyers90 When the dairies in my area get rolling, so cool to watch. The stream of silage flowing out of the chopper is almost unbelievable.

Fun fact, this is an aqua max hybrid, 26.5k pop, never shut water off. Plant health remained very good all season. So hot during pollination stretch & had major issue with that, basically killed the pollen from heat/hot dry wind. Looks good from the road does not = ⬆️ yield

Strip tilled, split middles, left old residue as mulch, after grazing last winter. Prewater, no winter moisture but good rain at planting, excellent weed control We know how to raise corn in one of the toughest places in America, but you can do everything right and it not work.

@DanAllred1 @danbyers90 Some of my best memories in my younger years was hauling silage…19 years old, cut my teeth in a 10 speed Pete, and you damn sure learn fast not to miss a gear and brace for the sprinkler tracks…it was organized chaos, 12 trucks running like they were stolen

I remember as a child when our silage pile spontaneously combusted and we lost winter feed that year. You know what happened? Several other ranchers brought in truckloads so we could make it through the winter. I don’t think they even charged for it. Nebraska farmers are a different breed. 💜

@danbyers90 When I was custom haying I used to swath in front of one of these crews. It was a high pressure situation to keep enough cut to keep that rig full with one swather.

@danbyers90 It’s crazy how efficient they are, this is the second day and the will come close to knocking out 360 acres

@danbyers90 Silage pencils better, we could use the forage, and pollination issues due to heat.

@danbyers90 The dairy up here started chopping last week. I pulled some ears looked pretty good but they did leave strips for insurance checks, I guess that’s why they left a few strips.

@danbyers90 Mid to upper teens tonnage, ~66% moisture, we are inoculating with chopper

@danbyers90 We haven’t in a long time. But, has a few guys reach out and say it’s worth doing. I’m sure the chopper had the option but we didn’t ask either. What inoculate are you using?

@danbyers90 Whatever the chopper uses, I’ll find out Very impressed with the crew he has and the job they do, just trusting his judgement and experience on what works.

@danbyers90 I can assure you they can getter done. Amazing what those big HP Choppers can cut. 1 million each so they better make some $$. I think the one cut for us was 1100 hp cut 12 rows at a swath at like good speed.
