It is still the undisputed king of horror game intros in my book. No other game could top it off even to this day. The tension build up, the slowly changing environment, the sound design, everything is just perfect down to the smallest detail. It's black magic.

Those camera moves are so great.. you'll always feel like you're being watched. This is why I feel iffy about the SH2 remake going full 3rd person cam.

Still my favourite Silent Hill. You wake up from a crash to look for your missing daughter…and this is the first thing that happens. Then you wake up in a diner straight out of a David Lynch film. Dreamy and horrific.

And because people are afraid of tank controls, these sorts of genius camera angles are unlikely to be seen in modern games. Outside of indies, at least.

Does it rebound from the part after this where you aimlessly wander the fog? Killed it for me but it may have been the moment

I wouldn’t say aimlessly. The game clearly tells you and shows you where to go at all times!

I never forget this scene. It basically changed me as a person, and that's not even an exaggeration.

SH1 Was probably one of the few PS1 games where all the disadvantages of PS1 hardware were Positives in that game. Vertex Warping and Heavy Fog added so much to the weird, surreal atmosphere to this game.
