Did it work in practice? I assume not, I imagine it was like a less flexible GM100 loss

It was surprisingly effective and it was handed over to the ARVN after the war.

The Battle of Kursk was the largest tank battle in history. German side: Approximately 780,000 to 900,000 soldiers, with around 2,700–3,000 tanks and assault guns (including the new Panther, Tiger, and Ferdinand/Elefant models), supported by about 2,100 aircraft. The force consisted primarily of regular Wehrmacht units, but with a significant core of armored divisions (Panzer and Panzergrenadier) that included roughly 80,000 troops from the most feared and best-equipped elite formations of the entire war. Soviet side: Approximately 1.9 million soldiers, with more than 5,000–6,000 tanks and self-propelled guns (mainly T-34s), supported by about 2,400–3,000 aircraft. The German offensive (Operation Citadel) failed, resulting in a decisive Soviet defensive victory and irrecoverable losses for the Germans (approximately 200,000 casualties and 700–800 tanks). The Soviets suffered higher casualties (around 800,000) but absorbed the attack and immediately launched counteroffensives. Kursk was the greatest concentration of German armored forces in the entire war, yet Panzer divisions still represented only ~20–25% of the total troops, the rest was mostly infantry advancing on foot or with limited support, highly vulnerable to the deep Soviet defensive belts. On the broader Eastern Front, the Soviets effectively eliminated over 90% of Germany’s elite forces, leaving Hitler with virtually no resources for further major plans. In addition to practically all elite armored units being committed there, a large portion of elite non-armored formations, including motorized/infantry Waffen-SS divisions, Fallschirmjäger (Luftwaffe paratroopers), Gebirgsjäger (mountain troops), and special units like the Brandenburg Division, were also fighting on the Eastern Front. The Germans had played all their strongest cards and effectively lost the war at that point.
