Get the all 22 broski so we can see the whole view. A lot of Slides/protection is a slide one side, 3 for 3 and a man side the other (big on big.) They Slide to the offensive right or defensive left to account for the 2 DL and LB. Usually teams slide to the NT side. Get man on man on backside with 2 DL and 2 OL. For Dean or the walked up LB, they have a RB for it. Raiders run a stunt and destroys the man side cause its hard to pass it off with a RB. The issue isn't necessarily on Slaughter, it's whoever called the protection. Coach, QB or even C can be in charge of it. Slaughter does his job based off of the slide.

I believe this is 100% slaughter As a center, you are the captain of protection. Man on man is always a goal and Hampton is only there to help. I’m about to get all 22 big bro but thanks for this perspective 🫡

Every team and every play call different. Can't just assume it's on slaughter without knowing who calls protections. I would doubt they give a rookie who didn't practice C much final say on protections. Goal of pass pro isn't alway just man on man, angles play a factor too.

Maxx Crosby is the reason lol

No he’s wasn’t 🤣

🤣🏴☠️🏴☠️🏴☠️🏴☠️

im tripping?

I’m no expert but I’m pretty sure it’s designed like that so the right guard can pass the dt to the center so they can double Maxx on the right but either way they should be able to read and recognize the blitzer coming

I hear ya but We are not doubling max when Alt is out there.

Technically Hampton should have picked up the LB. Instead he went and blocked the dude that was already being blocked. I think it’s more of McDaniels not being direct about responsibilities of each individual player more than just “oh slaughter sucks”

No bro, that is the responsibility of a center It’s always a numbers game In an ideal world everyone has one-on-one matchup and they win. The running back is just support for anyone who loses their matchup.

Unblocked MLB. Again slaughter has two starts and shouldn’t be required to make adjustments like that. Plus the LB could have not rushed and dropped back into coverage so it was Hamptons responsibility to pick that up.

@timmythunderr You could blame Hampton on not picking up the missed rusher by the center, but the center/OL are the first react to rushers before the get *help* from the backs/TE. Esp the interior OL. Tackles are usually left on islands

@timmythunderr And context matters. Rookie center with just two starts with no reps at the position during training camp or preseason. Why would you put protection adjustments on that player? MD needs to get with Herbert and have him making these adjustments.

@timmythunderr Yea just let you know the context of how it operates. It’s not an adjustment that’s new for him to make; in the SEC you face multiple scheme looks. It’s not a signal you gotta call, it’s just how assignments work in the trenches.

@timmythunderr I’m aware. I’m an SEC fan but again you shouldn’t be expecting your rookie center to be worrying about calling that out when you have 10 veterans around him including the 7th year QB. And not all assignments are set in stone MD could have it set up where he doesn’t want him 1v1.

@timmythunderr Especially when his system calls for the RB to be efficient in pass pro so again more than likely not just a slaughter issue but rather a coaching issue like I’ve stated several times already.

Center needs to call it and ol should communicate

Both of y’all are right.

This is the guy that was our best free agent signing. He and Massies lit the chargers up.

Yall dont realize this falls on the QB and RB too. Everyone's responsible. But especially the C and QB

The 2nd point you paused, look at Cole Strange. That is why Slaughter looked right…because him and Alt have a traffic cone between them

Slaughter needs to go back to LG and give Spomer the NOD to start at Center.

So, from my understanding after the week 1 loss the reporters asked Harbaugh who was in charge of the calling the protections and based on his response it seems that Herbert is in charge of calling the proper protections so with that being said, this is on Herbert

Wasn’t one of the lowest ranked Centers at the senior bowl during the whole draft process?? like I’m still confused why he was picked so high when there were better centers available smfh

People denying the fact our interior oline is horrendous is funny

Wrong. It is not the rbs job to pick up a designated blitzing defender. He is there for help . You can see by slaughter‘s body language he is not even sliding. He is just oblivious to the blitzer and the stunt. As a center that is your job.

So you have your running backs blocked blitzing linebackers with no help from the center if they’re coming in the A gap? Please tell me where you coach so I can make sure to never send my kid there

He's a rookie. It takes a couple years

You show ONE play and then use that as “evidence” that Herbert sucks? All QBs make mistakes. Using your rules, I can show “evidence” that any QB sucks.

Herb could’ve called it out too, many are pointing out that Herb doesn’t understand or know how to call out certain protections. Few times throughout his career he’s had a free blitzer coming right at him even during the jaguars playoff game, he needs to get better at it.

Might be more on Justin to call out that protection.

In other plays, yes But not on this play

Why not this play?

It’s a numbers game Three people should not be blocking too That’s common sense

Yeah I get that, but I wonder if there was a rule in place that called for a different protection. Maybe the RB should have picked that up?

His name is Max Crosby. That’s why the center was looking to that side of the ball. Maxx Corsby.

This is on Herbert. Doubt they would give that responsibility to a rookie. Herbert has to recognize this then call the right protections. This is why I don’t put Herbert in Elite status yet because pre-snap he is terrible!

Power of Crosby forcing the shift assignment to the right

6 protectors+ 5 rushing = hot route

Rb clearly hits the DT but let’s just ignore that to sound smart

I see what your saying, but giving up on a dude after 2 career games is nuts. Not every second round pick is a bonafide stud right out of college. The NFL takes some time to get used to for most players. This version of Slaughter isn’t his peak.

Young lineman especially rookies tend to struggle with any complicated assignments

You sound like a fucking dummy Max Crosby's on the right side you idiot.

Bigger issue is why are all the receivers running fly routes on 3rd and 2?

Yo son are you dumb? Its 60 pro zoned to maxxs side. The blitzing backer is the rbs job. They have to sort out the pick.

Preach

I’m a 100% justin defender but i also call out his faults. And this is not just a justin fault it’s a new WB fault. Nobody does pre snap anymore. Phillip woulda called that out. We cant blame the rookie center when the 7 year QB shoulda said something

I know Justin hate Kodean Now for the protection It’s a half slide C has the right A gap HB has the Left A gap Dean goes towards the O left and they just had a good rush called for the protection

If that’s the case… fire the oline coach Why are we half sliding away from the string of the defense? Recipe for injury

They do it for a multitude of reasons For this specific one, I’d have to guess sliding towards Maxx so they can give the tackle help towards the inside and the Center can pick up the DT

He snapped to Max Crosby dude
