Since yesterday, many people have been sending me videos and asking why these trees are being cut. I spoke to senior officials of the Chandigarh Administration regarding the matter. According to the officials, a cycle track is proposed to be constructed at this location. While travelling from Cricket Stadium Chowk towards Matka Chowk, a cycle track already exists on this stretch. However, there is no cycle track on the return side from Matka Chowk towards Cricket Stadium Chowk. Around two years ago, a doctor lost his life at this spot. Following that tragic incident, decision was taken to construct a cycle track here to improve cyclist safety.

This happened today in the cycle lane in Hammersmith. Because there are only 175km of segregated cycle lanes out of 15,000km of London road, cyclists don't appreciate people like MJ18 ULT deciding to use them as a cut-through. Mate — you'll get ten tickets a day doing this.

Just spoke to the person at the site. As expected, only about 30 metres of the cycle track is being removed at the upcoming U-turn near My Home Avatar Junction. That 30-metre stretch will be relaid with concrete so it can support both vehicular traffic and cyclists. Barricades will also be installed to prevent vehicles from entering the cycle track. Here is the video I shot few mins back.

I see the above video has reached its intended audience. I'll try and explain it as simply as I can for you simply minded drivers. You cannot give enough space to safely overtake on road layouts like this until you are past the traffic island regardless of the cycle lane.
