In Negheribil, Merapani (Golaghat district), a section of Hijabans have reacted aggressively after receiving a 7-day eviction notice. They are now questioning why a Mishing tribal family in the same area hasn’t been issued a similar notice. In Assam, tribals have the rights to claim forest land for dwellings under the Scheduled Tribes and Other Traditional Forest Dwellers (Recognition of Forest Rights) Act, 2006, commonly known as the Forest Rights Act (FRA) 2006. So Government is right for not issuing any eviction notice to the Mising family as the family is tribal.
