Conflating these two is absurd Rep. Green. Trans folks have been around for hundreds of years. What we're seeing is a society that is allowing trans kids to better express themselves without fear of retribution. The fact that you're suggesting kids are being "groomed" leading to this is not based in reality.

The Internet age allows children to know that they are not alone. They read up on how others have come out and know there is no shame in being LGBTQ+. Unfortunately people like @RepMTG stigmatize their differences and keeps fueling hate and bias against them.

I just conducted unannounced oversight of the Northwest Detention Center, which serves my district, and what I witnessed was devastating. One woman, who has called this country home for 20 years, was detained just days before her wedding to a U.S. citizen. Another man, a legal permanent resident for 31 years, a proud member of the Machinists Union, and a father of three U.S. citizen children, is also being held in detention. Trump is detaining our neighbors, coworkers, and loved ones without guaranteed due process and no accountability. That’s not American; that’s authoritarianism. I will not back down from this fight.

While giving the opening statements for the Module 8 hearing on 'Children and Young People' this week, UK Covid-19 Inquiry official counsel, Ms Dobbin, set out a presumption that school closures and lockdowns were an unavoidable or even desirable response: while acknowledging that school closures were "enormously damaging", before hearing any of the evidence, the Inquiry appears to consider that school closures are on balance effective and worthwhile enough to "nonetheless be needed in the future". This flies in the face of the devastating evidence of serious safeguarding issues, stunted attainment and almost universally negative social, educational and health outcomes for the children whose education was affected by school closures. Schools should be given protected status - as Essential Infrastructure - to resist culpable assumptions that our children's life chances can be sacrificed in panicked attempts at infection control.
