India is like EU,USA,African continent. May be geography,borders and unification makes it single entity. There is lot of diversity. Language,geography,food. No one actually can make it singular in any aspect.

I have an idea. Make India like the European Union. Every state will have their own constitution but will have a common currency. The people from all the states would be allowed to travel through different states. Every state will trade with each other.
India needs non-Indian leaders like Lee Kuan Yew, to forge an integrated and harmonious nationhood. Even the erstwhile British rulers were better than the present unwise & intolerant Hindutvawadi regime.

Hindi now reaches 80% of the people except a few retards who refuse to learn it for ideological reasons. In China there are as many if not more distinct languages (not dialects). Mandarin was IMPOSED through fear. Ignorant people consider it a homogeneous place.

China's population didn't start off identifying as 90% Han. They are/were distinct ethnicities. But when you have an authoritarian, unitary state that papers over all differences, violently cracks down on non-conforming behavior, (latest episode in Xinjiang), across generations that sort of unity results. I think that is what Modi is attempting with Hindutva. Language-wise, I think ensuring Indian children of all backgrounds understand either Sanskrit or English are the natural, least controversial options.
