Before they had a 3x3’ so we gave them a HUGE UPGRADE to a 3x4’

I think the deck is exactly one board wider than the steps. If I paid $5000 for that I would be pisssssssssssssed

How the fuck did that take them 2 days to build?

It looks like a quality job, but I’m definitely building my own if that’s what 5k gets me.

Having to pay for a "premium package" to get what should be done anyways is wild.

At best you could call this a stoop.

It's over 10 sqft, and 30" or more above grade. That is called a deck. Since it's attached to the dwelling, a building permit is required to be pulled. When pulling the permit, when they ask you what you are building, you wouldn't say "steps"

Stairs and landing as described in any plan set approved by the city.

Sorry that’s not a deck it’s a set of over built over charged steps.

I bought my house in 1997. When I found it, the exterior walls were up. They had plans for a scrawny 6 x 10 "deck". I asked them to build a 10 x 20 deck. I paid the difference. But I then would have steps to the backyard and room for patio/deck furniture. They used cheap decking that I replaced in 2019...

To all the people angry at price, understand that majority of that cost is materials. I’d ballpark at least 2000-2500 in materials. Permit, fuel, disposal, labor, not to mention you have to bake in any marketing or company overhead into any project Do the math or do it yourself

Anneke-CH 🇨🇭🇳🇱's profile picture

Where I live, that would be $15’000 at least.

I love all the contractors in chat saying how much it should cost, not being in the business or having a fucking clue where this was done.

2k max in materials. 3k for 2 days labor What a rip off.

Not even room for a chair. That isn't a deck. That is a stoop leading to stairs.

He must be from the city. Decks are not 2' wide by 4' long sorry. Those are steps. 5k for steps. Wow what a rip off.

Now the stairs are more expensive than the house.
