Situational awareness matters! What would you have done in this situation? Would you have been aware enough of your surroundings to be prepared to fend off a bear attack?

Saw somewhere statistically dogs are a singly causal contributor to bear attacks, bear encounters with a dog present almost always result in attacks upon the owner and most of them with follow through. They trigger the bears too much, which are smart enough to distinguish owners. The answer is yes. If I'm out with a dog in bear country I know if there's a bear anywhere near the dog is going to bring it to me and it's going to attack. So I'd have a 45/70 ready and some preparation at the range, or don't bring the dog.

I think not many people can have done as good as this guy. No noticeable panic, and very deliberate movements.

Wildlife is a seriously scary scenario, I hope I could keep my head Probably the scariest for me was a thing nothing happened, but I was on the subway in Mexico City, and a guy near me kept looking at me and talking to the girl with him. He was looking at the wear spot in my jeans where my wallet usually goes, but I had it in my front pocket Only action I did was move so the girl I was with was behind me, and I could watch him. Situational awareness absolutely is important

Can´t help to think that if he had control over his dog nothing would have come from this, bet it was the dog that triggered the response from the bear. But fast thinking none the less.

Possibly, no guarantees I would move as well as he did with my bad knee though.

I had an encounter in 1996 with a bear and a cougar simultaneously. Both were shot with .22mag I am the luckiest son of a B÷$%# alive besides my buddy Woody who was there when it happened. The very next day I bought a .357 magnum. I never wanted more ammo I had a 100 .22mag rounds I had two guns chambered in .22 mag a model 941 taurus 9 shot revolver and a model 782 marlin rifle both chambered in .22 mag. I swear I see all the arguments for more ammo all the time, but all I wanted that day was a bigger bullet that would decisevly end the confrontation. I was so fortunate that .22 mag hurt enough to turn both around, but it could have had a completely different outcome.

kudos to the bear for its "situational awareness" and knowing when someone intrudes on their home.

Scopaesthesia. I can be in a room with 200 peoples and i will single out the one looking at with in half a second, finding their gaze before they know it. The down side is that after an hour or so of this little game i get tired.
