Visits are only up 12M from 1978. 24% in 48yrs. That's ½ of 1% a year. Long-term growth is actually very slow, and depends a lot upon that winter's snow. BTW, visits aren't unique people, and I don't know how he gets 2M more each year. Last year, Vail visits were down 3%:

Definitely didn’t say anything about national ski resort visits. Which set of resorts do you think visits accumulate to? The long tail or the top 15 that are rolled into a subscription pass and marketed nationally? Here’s the full video…

Down 3% from what? Massive all-time highs from the covid ski boom of 2021-23

Tbh skiing should be a niche hobby like rock climbing. Most people that go can’t even ski anyways. Or if you can ski, take an avi course and get into the backcountry. Ski resorts feel like Disneyland (pejoratively)

It seems like the sort of thing that should reach a natural equilibrium eventually, ski resorts will gain or lose popularity until they become exactly as popular as they need to be to stay in business.

Damn. This may be the thing I care about least amongst everything.

Spend ~$1200 on an overnight plane ticket. Fly to Europe. Ski for almost nothing at the largest ski areas in the world. Trois Vallees France, $89 for a one day pass.👇

Just add a zero to the price of a season pass. Two clicks on the screen. Crowd problem solved.

Yeah, the big resorts are too expensive and too crowded. I primarily go to smaller local hills now. Much more fun and a fraction of the price. And no, I won’t tell you my favorites!

If you know of a little hidden secret somewhere with good snow and low crowds... please STFU.

There is land around whistler or Banff, but getting Environmental approval is the roadblock

Glad I got to experience it as a kid growing up in CO back in the 70s and into the 90s before it all went to shit with mergers, acquisitions, and multi-resort ski passes. Our local area (Big Mountain/Whitefish) has turned into a shitshow, I don't even bother anymore.

Boycott Vail Resorts... ("Ski-lifts" fall right into the 'sloth + gluttony' column)
