While no one wants Apartheid back, many are asking why South Africa was, by far, better run then than it is now. Why is this? Under Apartheid SA was run by industry, not ideology. South Africa under apartheid (roughly 1948–1994) ran a state-supported capitalist economy, not a communist one. There were strong protections of property rights, unlike now where the black government can seize your property, causing investor uncertainty. Predictable commercial law, aggressive industrialization, large-scale mining, manufacturing, and energy investment. A technocratic, merit-based civil service (for whites only — considered as racist as the black one today, but, back then under white management, administratively effective). The economy grew rapidly in: 1950s–1970s (often 5–7% GDP growth) Heavy industry (steel, chemicals, armaments, energy). Infrastructure (rail, ports, power stations). 2. The current economy is not truly communist, but it is state-heavy and politically captured. Post-1994 South Africa is best described as: A mixed economy with strong state control High redistribution promises, and weak execution capacity. The ruling party, African National Congress, follows a Tripartite Alliance ideology with: South African Communist Party and COSATU. This results in rigid labor laws, cadre deployment (political loyalty over competence), and hostility toward private capital. The system is redistributive without productive growth (ie: steal from the whites with a promise to give to the blacks) — a fatal economic flaw. 3. Governance collapse, not equality, is the core problem with the ANC. The biggest difference is state capability. The Apartheid state was highly centralized, technically competent and the country's infrastructure was maintained. Post-apartheid state: Widespread state capture with politicized bureaucracy. Collapse of SOEs (Eskom, Transnet, SAA) Weak local government Massive corruption. Economic equality cannot be achieved when the state cannot deliver basics like electricity, rail, water, or policing. High unemployment (~32%, higher in reality) Low investment Shrinking tax base due to emigrating whites, and dependence on social grants. You cannot redistribute what you do not produce.

Eight people locked themselves inside a massive glass bubble in the desert, intending to survive completely isolated from the outside world for two years. I took this video at the Cloud Forest dome in Singapore. Looking up at that massive climate-controlled ecosystem under glass, I cannot help but think of the 1991 Biosphere 2 project. It was a fully enclosed replica of Earth built in the US to test if humans could colonize other planets. The 12,000-square-metre terrarium contained a miniature rainforest, a savanna, a desert, and even a tiny ocean with a living coral reef. For the first few months, the crew of four men and four women grew their own food and recycled their air and water. Then the ecosystem started to go rogue. The designers forgot to account for wind. Without wind to provide physical stress, the trees inside the dome grew rapidly but failed to develop strong wood. They simply collapsed under their own weight. Then the pollinating insects vanished. The crew had to painstakingly pollinate their crops by hand just to grow food. Swarms of cockroaches and crazy ants thrived and completely took over the agricultural zone. The structure itself started working against them. The exposed concrete walls were secretly absorbing oxygen from the air. The breathable oxygen dropped so low that it felt like living at an altitude of 4,000 metres. The crew developed sleep apnea and found themselves gasping for breath at night. They were also constantly hungry. Their main crops failed, and they had to eat so many sweet potatoes that their skin actually started turning orange. The intense hunger and thin air fractured the group. The eight people split into two bitter factions that completely stopped speaking to each other. They would walk past one another in the narrow corridors in total silence. Despite gasping for air, losing an average of sixteen percent of their body weight, and completely despising each other, they refused to quit. They continued to work the farm and maintain the life support systems. When the heavy airlock doors finally opened exactly two years later in 1993, all eight of them walked out together. Today, the massive glass structure is run by a university. It serves as the largest earth science laboratory in the world, where researchers study how real forests react to changing temperatures.

Not sure if I'm the only one but I think WHOOP isn't very good tracking lifting weights It generally doesn't auto detect weight lifting (instead showing it as ACTIVITY) and then rates it as low strain compared to cardio, probably because it's lower BPM But that doesn't really make sense, I can do an extremely heavy lifting workout that hurts for days after but WHOOP will show a strain of 6 Then I go for a light bicycle ride and it's a strain of 12, simply because it gets my heart BPM up This problem is confirmed to me by people at WHOOP but since it's so hard to measure the strain of lifting with their sensors they prefer to not estimate lifting too heavy, instead they want people to write down their specific lifting workouts in the WHOOP app everytime But like nobody has time for that Also since it never auto detects weight lifting (eventhough it's the only workout type I ever set, so it should just default), I have to go back to every single workout in the app of the last couple of days to manually change it to Weight Lifting which is tedious (especially with that link workout popup everytime + the calendar resetting to today straight after) I think WHOOP is made for runners but they forgot people also need to lift weights and it has a bias to cardio This actually has been influencing a lot of my friends to run more which is good but I still think it's a massive bias as strength training is super important for longevity too Will Ahmed Viviano

Hollywood? Try your own version. Update Grok Imagine. You’ll surprise yourself. Grok The Concept Summary: The project is a 1-minute hyper-realistic cinematic samurai fight short film set in a cyberpunk-futuristic Japan (initially classic feudal, later evolved to neon-drenched dystopia with bio-luminescent sakura trees, heavy rain, volumetric neon god-rays, holograms, and high-tech armor). Key evolution across requests: Started as traditional samurai duel under cherry blossoms. Shifted to cyberpunk aesthetic (vibro-katana with plasma edges, nano-armor, ocular implants). Emphasized ultra-photorealism, Hollywood-level cinematography (Villeneuve/Deakins style, anamorphic lenses, 8K, 120–240 fps). Focused on super-fast, intense swordplay: blistering speed with motion blur, escalating ferocity, massive white-hot sparks, vivid arterial blood sprays, petal/rain physics, dynamic camera (whip-pans, orbits, slow-mo ramps on impacts). Latest phase locked to a specific dramatic frame: two rain-soaked samurai in crossed-katana lock under misty teal pavilion, sakura falling like snow, battle exploding from that pose into ultra-rapid clashes. Core mood: brooding melancholy + fatalistic honor in a dystopian downpour, visceral action that feels grounded yet larger-than-life. Master Prompt (consolidated & final version – ready for AI video tools) “Hyper-photorealistic 8K cinematic 60-second live-action short directed by Denis Villeneuve & Chad Stahelski hybrid, Arri Alexa 65 anamorphic lenses, 2.39:1, 120–240 fps for perfect motion clarity and extreme speed ramps. Brutal grounded realism — no anime, no stylization. Rain-soaked cyberpunk Tokyo cherry-blossom garden / elevated alley at 4 a.m.: heavy vertical rain, turquoise-teal mist, bio-luminescent pink-purple sakura petals falling like glowing ash, volumetric teal-magenta-cyan neon god-rays from towering holographic billboards, wet black asphalt mirroring fractured neon, traditional wooden pavilion in background.

Today the Taliban surrounded the home of an Afghan who worked for the U.S. military for some 15 years searching for him. They believed he had returned from the refugee camp in the UAE but thanks to Pres Trump he was not there to be murdered. Trump inherited this disaster & is saving these lives but this is the reality for U.S. allies from Afghanistan: “What a pain that cannot be described in words. Every time my cell phone rings, it feels like a heavier weight is on my chest than in the years and days before. They said general amnesty... they said we have no business... they said we have come to restore security and tranquility... but our home, which was our peaceful and secure sanctuary, has now been under the shadow of guns and heavy gazes since this morning. How long will our people start every morning with the fear of when they will knock on the door, enter without permission, and we are left with this unanswered question: What are they after? What do they want? Those who once served this land are today under surveillance, under pressure, and under questioning. General amnesty has become just a word to deceive, to comfort a world waiting for recognition. But here, in the back alleys of Kabul, the truth is something else; "Truth is the fear that dwells in the hearts of people, the sound of doors being slammed mercilessly, and a look that no longer trusts. Our people are neither enemies nor threats. But when the walls of your home are no longer safe, when someone's presence in their past is considered a crime, then no words, not even "forgiveness," can heal our wounded hearts Today, the savage Taliban attacked my house again, falsely informing me that I had returned home and that they were trying to find me. God Almighty has failed and shamed them, and will always fail them.”

I’m truely amazed at how strong my 11yr old is getting. He wanted to squat tonight after he hit and was scheduled for 2x2 at 100 Lbs, he ended up repping out 5 at 100 Lbs! For those that think lifting isn’t safe for kids, it’s education time… The idea that lifting weights will stunt a child’s growth is actually a myth that for some reason started and spread after a mid 1900s Chinese study to find out why child laborers on a mine in a remote region of China were on average signifigently shorter than their peers. The hypothesis was that it was due to carrying heavy loads out of the mines. However, the technology at the time could not confirm that as the cause, and the study was deemed inconclusive because they couldn’t tell if the cause was in fact the loads or if it was due to malnourishment due to the remote area in China, and all the time spent in the mines. Fast forward to 1999, Dr Avery Faigenbaum relooked at the issue this time studying a group of pre-pubescent children participating in resistance training vs a control group (Faigenbaum et al. 1999). Using modern technology )I believe he used MRIs) he found that the bone density was actually thicker in the trained group vs the control group, with no damage or negative impact on growth plates. Several hundred follow up studies have been done in the close to 25 years since and have all confirmed Faigenbaum’s findings. Resistance training (which includes weight training) causes bone density increases with no risk to growth plates. As such, even the American Association of Pediatrics as well as many other orgs such as National Strength & Conditioning Association and National Academy of Sports Medicine all encourage youth resistance training under qualified supervision. Links to a few recent scientific papers & position statements supporting the benefits to resistance training for youth (and debunking the stunting growth myth) This on shows the cognitive benefits caused by resistance training in youth athletes : Squat University Official Strength Debates NSCA Travis Mash

In a massive blow to foreign-backed influence operations, Handala Hack has announced the total compromise and takeover of IranWire. The operation has resulted in the extraction of a vast intelligence cache, including confidential correspondence, internal affiliate lists, and the identities of infiltrators, effectively burning a primary asset operating under CIA guidance. Handala has demonstrated full administrative control over IranWire’s extensive digital infrastructure. This includes their Telegram channels (approx. 49,000 subscribers), X (Twitter) accounts (155,000+ followers), and a Facebook page with over 472,000 followers. By seizing the verified professional dashboards and internal URL shortening services, the group has gained direct access to years of administrative history and internal metrics. 1000s of internal documents and coordinates provided to foreign services have been secured and encrypted for delivery to the intelligence agencies of the Islamic Republic. Handala warns that all individuals who transmitted photos, videos, or coordinates to this outlet have been identified and are now under constant and precise surveillance. The breach reveals critical technical details of the outlet's operations, including Turkish-based IP addresses and United Kingdom-registered account creation data, further mapping the geography of this influence network. As the structural foundations of these hostile platforms are liquidated, the window for redemption for those who sold out their country has officially closed.

The best exercise for the brain you’ve probably never seen. According to Michael J. Lavery’s book “Whole Brain Power”, using a 4-pound sledge hammer to bounce a golf ball up and down dramatically amplifies both your neurological and physical demands Massive Central Nervous System (CNS) Activation The sheer weight of a 4-lb sledge forces the CNS to fire at a much higher intensity. To keep a lively golf ball bouncing on a heavy, rigid piece of steel, your brain has to send incredibly powerful, rapid-fire signals to your muscles. This level of resistance forces maximum motor unit recruitment, teaching your nervous system to fire more efficiently under tension. Elite Grip and Forearm Strength Lavery heavily emphasizes the link between hand/grip strength and brain health, viewing the hands as the direct external extension of the central nervous system. Bouncing a ball requires a loose, reactive wrist to absorb and redirect impact, but holding a 4-lb hammer requires immense isometric grip strength. Managing that weight leverages extreme stress onto the forearms, wrists, and fingers, building dense, functional grip strength that standard lifting rarely touches. Accelerated Neuroplasticity via Forced Focus With a light hammer, you can cheat the movement or rely on casual reflexes. With a 4-lb sledge, there is zero room for error. The high penalty for a missed bounce (the heavy hammer dropping or completely throwing off your rhythm) forces the brain into a state of hyper-vigilance and deep cognitive focus. This intense concentration triggers a higher release of acetylcholine and dopamine, the exact neurotransmitters required to stimulate neuroplasticity and forge new neural pathways. Overcoming Hemispheric Dominance (Ambidexterity) When you transition the 4-lb sledge to your non-dominant hand, the challenge scales exponentially. Because the non-dominant hemisphere of your brain isn't used to managing that much weight combined with fine motor precision, the drill forces rapid communication across the corpus callosum (the bridge connecting the left and right sides of the brain). It quickly exposes and corrects deep-seated muscular and neurological imbalances between your two sides. Cortical Mapping and Joint Stability Holding a heavy weight at the end of a lever arm requires all the stabilizing micro-muscles in your wrist, elbow, and shoulder rotator cuff to fire simultaneously. This builds incredible joint integrity while expanding your brain’s "cortical map"—its internal blueprint of where your body is in space (proprioception). Benefits: - Maximum Central Nervous System Recruitment - Dense Grip and Forearm Strength - Forced Cognitive Focus & Neuroplasticity - Rapid Dual-Hemisphere Brain Activation - Enhanced Proprioception & Joint Integrity - Growth Hormone (GH) and Testosterone - “ Fountain of Youth" Endorphins - Dopamine and Acetylcholine - Insulin Sensitivity and Blood Sugar Regulation

2024 was not a job—it was a calling. 105 countries. 130 flights. 5 continents. One mission: to document the pulse of Africa’s advance and adventure through the corridors of global and continental advocacy. It was nothing short of a movie. Every flight, every border crossed, every story told, and every landscape captured carried the weight of a mission far greater than us all: to ensure Africa’s story is told boldly, truthfully, and in the right rooms. All this while driving forward the African Development Bank’s relentless mission to inspire nations to dream beyond limits. But this journey wasn’t without turbulence—both literal and figurative. There were frantic dashes to catch flights, unpredictable terrains, and moments when exhaustion loomed heavy. Yet, even in those moments, purpose burned brighter than fatigue. Carrying out this work under the magnetic leadership of Dr. Dr. Akinwumi A. Adesina, CON, CGH added a profound sense of direction to every step. His vision is unstoppable, his energy contagious, and his passion for Africa unparalleled. Dr. Dr. Akinwumi A. Adesina, CON, CGH doesn’t just lead; he ignites. To witness and document his unwavering commitment to Africa’s rise was not just a privilege—it was a masterclass in leadership and purpose. Capturing his essence was both an honor and a challenge. How do you photograph someone who doesn’t just represent Africa but embodies it—its resilience, its possibilities, its soul? And yet, through this calling, we told the story that got the world to pay attention to the continent in ways it never had before. 2024 was not just a year. It was a mission, a movement, and a mandate to amplify Africa’s voice. I am profoundly grateful to be the storyteller of a narrative that refuses to be silenced. As we step into 2025, one thing is clear: Africa’s story is far from over. In fact, it’s only just beginning.

🚨 BREAKING: TEXANS RISE UP (AGAIN) 🚨 MURPHY, TEXAS FIGHTS BACK AGAINST ISLAMIZATION Last night, droves of proud Texans packed the Murphy City Council meeting to stand up against the latest phase of Islamic expansion... Murphey is facing a proposed Islamic Student Center / mosque expansion threatening to turn this quiet suburban community into ANOTHER foothold for cultural conquest. A retired Foreign Service Officer - who lived in Afghanistan, Yemen, and East Africa under Islamic rule for over 20 years - spoke raw truth.... "I didn't come to Murphy to assimilate into someone else's culture. I came here to live in mine. I do NOT want an Islamic Student Center in my backyard." TEXANS WANT TEXAS TO REMAIN TEXAS! 🇺🇸 Residents voiced fears over rapid demographic shifts, traffic nightmares from massive parking demands, strained infrastructure, and the erosion of Texas values in a town that grew from 4,000 to over 21,000 - not through natural American growth, but engineered change. This isn't "diversity." It's the same playbook hitting red-state Texas hard: 🔺Quiet land grabs 🔺Brotherhood-linked networks 🔺"Religious freedom" shields for Sharia-adjacent infrastructure 🔺Local officials tiptoeing while communities get overridden Murphy is waking up - just like Josephine, Broken Arrow, and others refusing surrender. Texans are drawing the line: Our neighborhoods are NOT for sale to foreign ideologies that reject assimilation and the Constitution. To every patriot in Collin County and beyond: SHOW UP. SPEAK OUT. DEMAND TRANSPARENCY.
