Slightly surreal and spellbinding at the same time. I had the privilege of seeing in May morning from the top of Magdalen tower. A once in a lifetime experience!

Stunning! A similar post, from the throng, was similarly lovely, though the comments were unsettling, about how it might be replaced by the muezzin's call to prayer, or prevented by 'elth 'n safety'. What is wrong with people that they fail to embrace and celebrate such beauty?

May Day in Oxford was always magical, slightly pagan and great fun…pubs were open all night and then you had the choir and the bells ringers bringing in the day.

As a scholar, I was able to do this. Was perfect alibi when the fire alarm on my staircase was set off causing massive chaos. I still seemed to be under a cloud just for having a room there though…

To see and hear this makes me feel grateful to be alive and for all life, and the re-greening of earth after winter.

I love this idea of singing in the season at daybreak, and apparently several thousand other people do too. What a treat!
