I will try this. I have given out the test on the first day. Phones away! I have them Talk about what they don’t know know and make a list of learning goals on the board. It allows them to see what’s coming and embeds some vocabulary etc. in their brains.

How big are your class sizes when you’ve done this? What age/classes? I’m giving a test in like 10 hours and might just throw caution to the wind and try it ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

@BuddyMcLovin413 So sorry I didn't get to you in time, but my class size is around 30-36, college.

After watching your post about this method a while ago, I decided to try it with my 8th graders. They couldn't believe a teacher would allow them to talk about the test before taking it. I agree with your statement regarding test anxiety, and this does help reduce it.

Awesome! Thanks for trying it!

You inspired me to do this this year! I also state that when they are working on the test, notating their thinking is just as important to me as their answers. Anyone want to share their thoughts on this?

They are holding the test but can they open the test and discuss the test questions?

Yes

Studying also lowers test anxiety.

Absolutely love that approach, Howie. 👏

Thanks!
