the “performative male” trope has me thinking - I’m cringed out by this but what am I cringed out at exactly, what being performative even mean? I understand the literal definition but aren’t we all ALL doing that? who ISN’T trying to play some role in society? who doesn’t suppress or exaggerate or even make up things about themselves to fit in? I’ve said before identity is not formed in isolation, it’s impossible to think about “who you are” except in relation to other people, so what’s the diff between a performative person and just a normal person?
