It’s essentially the same joke, but the writing and delivery on one is way better than the other

It’s because one is based on genuine hate and disgust while the other is scared of going so far that people might get mad at them 🥺

@lordereen Well British people have always been funnier than Americans so it makes sense

Lorne is a Zionist as is most of the us cast

The difference is stunning. But i blame it on lorne and nbc. Snl writters do not have free range

You can tell the US version did more "jokes" about netanyahu because of how bad the UK version made them look... but since they don't want to actually piss anyone off, they constantly go "oh no, who wrote that? You're not gonna like this!!!". Genuinely shameless

the Zionist filter is everywhere in US

What’s amazing here is that it’s basically the same joke, but man what a difference in writing and delivery.

You could tell @nbcsnl legal got in there to make sure he cald it a war and not what it is, a genocide of the Palestinian people.

@Namith_sw Michael Che is a known alcoholic. He looks inebriated here. Unfunny joke + poor delivery due to intoxication =terrible SNL moment

Big difference in the audience responses.

Also just lack of confidence & conviction behind Che's delivery--like even he knows it's tepid, unfunny, & won't land. Pretending to take notes to deflect awkwardness just makes it worse. I don't even find SNL UK that funny, but at least they commit to their work.

Sadly the average American has less understanding than the Brits. The parts about taking furniture wouldn’t have worked as well here.

Good lord… the ‘WOOOOOOOOO’ and clap after le genocide, is just cringe

The main difference between the 2 is SNL UK is actually funny

US SNL trying to tell the joke without taking a side... " it's brilliant because both liberals and the IDF could plausibly find it funny!"

America is so embarrasing they can't even do their own shows well. Entertainment is like their no. 1 export. That and bombs - and they're shit at those too.

Getting claps isn't funny... Tina Fey

It's coz they're censoring any kind of truthful criticism of Israel. American Instagram is filled with great jokes about Israel but since they don't wanna offend their masters, they censor themselves like muffled dogs.

Ngl SNL UK weekend update torched the US one.

Che's joke was bland and similar, but was vague/safe compared to the UK joke (perhaps due to the powers that be at NBCUniversal and or Comcast), so the crowd's reaction sounded confused and or a bit delayed. The UK joke had several brilliant, funny and quick pointed layers.

Michael and Colin have to go. I miss when the Weekend Update anchors weren’t laughing at all their own jokes. The whole cast needs an overhaul, honestly. I say keep Ashley, James, Marcello, Andrew, Jeremy, and Grace and then build from there. Everyone else can go!

@richardpbacon Meh. Brasseye would destroy both tbh. But Chris Morris would then be labelled as “Hamas”

Also doing a genocide in lebanon, so, that first joke was a little off.

"war in gaza" vs genocide, the criticism is overall sharper and dryer and lands much more impactfully in the UK one

The UK version is on point. The American version elides the point.
