The strategy of spreading snow thinly to assist melting/salting is only reliable, even advisable, when the temp is above freezing. NYC is under an extreme cold watch for the next week. Nothing will melt. 15 degrees at night turns the streets into a hockey rink.

I get (and greatly approve of) hammering Mamdani over not getting the snow removed sooner, but spreading it to increase surface area to take advantage of sunlight and temperature is not as dumb as it looks.
