It is true that Russia has made a huge strategic blunder in Ukraine, and that Russian casualties number well over a million. But even as the war continues, Russia is rearming and reconstituting its armed forces and industrial base. Even in the event of a peace deal in Ukraine—which we are all working hard to achieve—Russia’s rearmament would likely only accelerate. The wider danger to Europe would not end there; it would increase. So we must respond to this threat in full.

🐥 time passed by so quickly as we spent a year together. it would be great if our team could keep going, but we have a set time ahead of us. that's why we need to spend 2025 happily so that we can be happy even after that. i've been thinking about this when i sleep these days. 🐥 i hope the name zb1 just doesn't stay in history. what i mean is i want us to last for a long time.

US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth has criticised New Zealand’s defence spending - currently 2% of GDP - as “freeloading” on the US. I think this criticism is mostly fair. The US does basically underwrite much of the international security on which we depend, and we ultimately rely on them to defend us if under serious threat. They have every right to demand we pull our weight. If NZ has any rebuttal it is to point to the large number of pointless and counterproductive military escapades the US has involved itself in (Iran, Iraq, etc), which are not in NZ’s interests, which we are right to stay out of, and which the US should stay out of too.
