So for 5 years, “offline” has been the #1 request. Today, thanks to the perseverance of our engineering team, Notion finally works offline. Your ideas don’t need Wi‑Fi to exist! Why did offline take so long? You might ask. Notion is unique. Unlike products like Apple Notes, which is private and stored on your device first, Notion is collaborative — it has to sync across workspaces with thousands of people. 2/n

And unlike Google Docs, Notion isn’t just pages. It’s a graph of interconnected blocks where tasks link to databases and link to knowledge base. So we had to invent what didn’t exist, and migrate 100M+ users gracefully behind the scenes with zero downtime. 3/n

The hardest part: resolve conflict when multiple people edit the same content offline. Our team built one of the largest production CRDT systems (Conflict‑free Replicated Data Types). One teammate even wrote a PhD thesis about it! 4/n

Databases were another beast — each cell can link to pages upon pages, infinitely deep. For this v1, we start with 50 rows per database by default when offline. (More to come in v2!) 5/n

Our code once assumed connectivity everywhere. We audited thousands of features to learn what breaks and what we could fix or degrade gracefully. Every engineering team at Notion is involved. After months of migration (and a tease at the last Make with Notion conference) — here’s Notion Offline Mode! 6/n

And this is v1. We’ll keep iterating and shipping. The goal is simple: Notion that works anywhere, without you having to think about it. Thank you for your patience all these years. See you offline!

I have notes with many many many people collaborating on it, and it seems to work offline, handle the sync differences when coming back online, all just works.
