Abel’s offering was accepted by God because it was offered as proscribed by God, ie the offering of a lamb which required the shedding of blood. It is a symbolic act that points to Christ. It is in similitude of the offering of the Son of God. Cain brought fruit of the ground. He did not bring forth an offering as proscribed, and then became angry when his offering, not an offering based in truth, was rejected. Rebellion and pride. Seeking to establish morality outside of God’s word. Abel humbles himself and is obedient. Cain disobeys and his pride brings bitterness against truth and hatred and envy toward his righteous brother. It is the story of humanity.

I used to appreciate Peterson. He sees everything through a Jungian and psychological lens. He’s placing Sacred Scripture through Jung and modern psychology Rather than placing Jung and modern psychology through Sacred Scripture. He may be an apt shrink But he’s a crappy theologian. If he truly wishes to weigh in on Scripture, he should consider baptism and receiving all the sacraments as his lively wife has. And several years of orthodox spiritual and theological formation. And some humility. I now take what he says about everything with a grain of salt or less. He’s a troubled, disoriented man lost in his own Jungian archetypes. Pray for him. @jordanbpeterson

Jordan Peterson is misunderstanding the Bible. Adam and Eve are not metaphorical figurative imaginary mythical figures that teach lessons. They are historical figures. The Bible is not a mythical book of Aesops, it is the divine revelation and written message given to man by God.
