So it’s basically the same everywhere

I’d bet ain’t nobody crafting nothing. I can run over to TaoBao (Chinese super-Amazon) and buy everything shown here.

Exactly right

$120 worth of yarn and 22 hrs of my time invested in crocheting a king-size "afghan", even if I only paid myself $5 an hour, no one wants to pay $230 for a handmade bed cover 🤷♀️ if "crafters" earned a dollar for every time they heard somebody say "Oh, I could make that"... 🤣

Every "craft" market I've been to across three continents has this exact junk. It's so tiresome. Just missing the boomer with the extremely overpriced basic cutting boards.

slop world

Went to a Christmas one last year 5 tables with the same damn 3d printed dragon Over and over

"Let's go DO something! The craft fair is open, let's go walk around and see if they have anything interesting! At least we'll get out of the house!"

We have a craft fair here and it’s actually crafts made here and not a flea market. Rules are simple… All products have to be made local, no reselling. All those flea market deals are complete rip offs.

Accurate, but not in my booth! *Shameless self promotion*

Didn't see any in the video but you know a good 75% of the tabled had cheap 3D printed trash tchotchkes, too. The plastic dragons are inescapable at any kind of event with any sort of table vendors.

@darknessofmice I've been vending since 2019 and it's getting fucking horrible out here.

Local “craft shows” by me are all coasters or “man cave” laser cut decorated pieces of shit wood or smarmy t shirts

It's not just craft fairs here it's farmers markets too. There was a time when your local farmers market just sold locally produced produce and local butchers selling butchered local meat. It's all bought in stuff nowadays and exotic jars of preserves, etc.

I miss when craft shows were actual crafts. I used to take a table of fretwork and make good money for a high school kid. Adjacent tables had people painting stuff at the show, woodburners making everything smell like smoke. It was great. They all suck now.

It’s all useless trinkets marketed to women.

I doodle stuff! I will eventually sell stuff...

My art :3

They got a license for all that copyright merch? Jeeezzusss you can't do that lol

the only craft fair you’ll ever catch me at is west coast craft.

the flea market has turned into a lot of the same. more of this kind of shit than anything else I'm just waiting for these 3D print peddlers to go the way of the vinyl decal peddlers and phase themselves out because they're oversaturating the market so much.

A lot of the Christmas bizarres were just ai slop, temu crap, and 3d printed generic garbage.

The same people complaining about this are not spending 2k on a painting or $100 for a handmade cutting board. Also craft fairs have always had a lot of handmade stuff from India and Peru. I mean it really is handmade, just not locally LOL

White Women Hobbies. I have three single-mother-white-female friends and they all individually decided to go through the "home crafts" cycle after seeing this kind of stuff on Etsy or Tick Tock. They each dumped thousands of dollars into Cricket desktops, drink mug decoration supplies, 3D print hardware and software, and T-shirt or wall decor printing equipment. I have no idea where this money came from, because they are all constantly on some kind of bend about "I can barely afford [whatever] for my kids".

Temuification

I was at a Christmas market in DC and this stuff was at every other stall, along with $40 “Peruvian wool” hats and gloves

Must be why my art sales are up this year. All the sellouts started doing ai slop and eliminated most of the original art competition even further

So fucking sick of "if AI drew it for me it's my artwork and not trademark infringement".

look at it the other way. its much easier to filter everything else out and find real craftspeople selling their own stuff because they will stand out that much more against the backdrop of slop.

Show me the $10 bath bombs shaped like stuff, I know they’re there

AI has screwed all of who have been on Etsy for years, I quit doing craft markets when I was told what I made wasn’t hand made enough (cut/sanded/designed and hand painted & lettered signs) - I was put next to a mass produced cup gal that was literal crap and used nothing but AI generated files….mo long do markets.

“Here’s a bunch of shit I bought and am now selling to you”

This is hilarious and so true. I don't even bother going to craft shows anymore it's all bullshit

I know it's not normal, but the last craft show I was at had kitchen stuff carved out of solid blocks of olive wood, homemade polish pottery, and a bar.

Tbh is it all that wrong to poach money off of boomers if they're dumb enough to buy this AI slop, they shit on younger people, muh bootstraps, etc, had an easy economy so if people make money off of boomers buying this stuff, good lol fuck em

When I learned that a lot of these people are in cults, I stopped going to these fairs
