Two other big topics he touched on: - Importance of trying to throw hard from a young age - Supportive parents and coaches who knew how to stay out of the way of his development.

@theFortMcKenry @FlatgroundApp Sleep, recovery, and nutrition aren’t at all easy for a service academy athlete. As great as the strength staffs are, the requirements on students are just different. Going from AF to LSU, I’m sure the positive impact of those 3 areas can’t be understated by Skenes.

@theFortMcKenry @FlatgroundApp Didn’t consider that, and I don’t know what the schedule for a service academy student-athlete looks like, but I can imagine it makes sleep, recovery, and nutrition difficult. @ZachArgo, care to enlighten us?

@Paul_Skenes @FlatgroundApp This was a good interview. Here’s the problem though, he has access to tools and technology that very few young pitchers do. Yes, they can own their sleep, recovery and nutrition, but unfortunately the rest costs high amounts of money. What then should a young pitcher do?

Having access to tech can expedite the process, but its not necessary to get better at pitching. You can get access to a weight room and a local pitching coach who can help with mechanics for a relatively low cost. Also tons of free/low cost resources online to learn from.
