I think it was to show how far Lottie has gone into the Wilderness in the past but also kinda misdirect us the audience into thinking she’s evil. But it’s weird they never followed up the worship scene with Van and Misty? Like what’s going on there?

I could swear that when season two premiered the showrunners said something about reworking Lottie’s character in order to avoid reinforcing harmful stereotypes about mentally evil people
