So, what we've got so far is good advice in the corner from Ben Davison, while this video refutes the allegation that Itauma hadn't completed 12 in sparring. I notice this video isn't popular. Probably not negative enough. Moses was breezy with the sparring Q. 📽️ talkSPORT Boxing

“Don’t get carried away….composure” - that’s not nearly good enough, Tom. That kid was flooring it and visibly gasping for oxygen between rounds. He was drowning himself. He needed to tell him bluntly, “jab here, jab there. Don’t put much on it. Clinch. Use the entire ring. TAKE THE ROUND OFF. We’re way up.” He was entrusted with the Crown Jewels, a talent British boxing may not see again for generations. If you can’t protect a 21 year old prodigy from his own inexperience, hand the keys to somebody who can. He has to go.

@boxing_ts That wasn't the only thing he said. It's customary now to throw shit in every direction after a loss, even when the facts aren't clear. Lou Duva must be thanking his lucky stars in heaven that social media didn't exist when he told Meldrick Taylor to win Round 12.

Im not going to take Billy Joe Saunders word over what Moses says..even Billy’s lies are lies mate. “I don’t see the point in 12 round spars”. Who said that? Moses. Where did he get that attitude from? When asked about cardio what did Moses say? “Touchy subject”. He went into that fight nowhere near prepared enough and he’s paying the team a fortune to get him right. If he’s not listening to them, that’s the trainers fault.

@boxing_ts Ok, I get the feeling we'll hear more about it.

@boxing_ts Billy is telling his view of what someone else said. The fighter himself doesn't remember a 12 round spar, 3 fighters he may have sparred over 12 rounds with more rest than a minute

Tom Gray 的头像
Tom Gray13 天前

So the part about "stopping" sparring partners in the 12th was subterfuge? You might be bang on. However, we're awful eager to ignore that, while taking Moses word on not "remembering" a 12 round spar. He looked like he couldnt even be bothered answering the question that day. We'll see what comes out of it. For me, the issue wasn't rounds, it was the pace he set himself and the mustard he was putting on EVERY shot.

@boxing_ts Way more inclined to believe Fabio than Orbital bone quitter retard BJS. Whether he did or didn’t, his cardio was obviously an issue. Whatever way we look at it, Ben is the answer lol.

@boxing_ts I don't buy this UK default of blasting trainers. For me, it was the pace that Itauma set that was the problem. And he was told more than once to bring it down. Every shot, including combination punching, was a home run. Big guys are RARELY built 4 that kind of explosive output.

@boxing_ts I agree and also think that two things can be true here! Whatever happens next, he must learn from this because new opponents will be using dying to take him to deep waters now.

@boxing_ts I don’t think the fatigue was purely down to gas tank Hrgovic added pressure/built tension all through the build up Then add all the pressure of the event on top of that in his first real test it was going to drain him of energy Needed a couple more step ups before this fight

Tom Gray 的头像
Tom Gray13 天前

@boxing_ts That's a good point. Itauma was being made to work. That was all Abel Sanchez, who is one of the finest boxing men in the world.

Tom Aitchison 的头像
Tom Aitchison13 天前

@boxing_ts I don’t think he was necessarily made to work any more than Hrgovic was staying in the fight Moses was throwing bombs from round 1 and that was the issue He needed to control the pace of the fight better which you only really learn through experience imo

WritingBoxingYogi 的头像
WritingBoxingYogi13 天前

@boxing_ts Takes mental and physical energy to hold off somebody like Hrgovic. I think conditioning is one facet but there were plenty of others including a young boxer not having the ring iq to be fluid, adapting to a more experienced opponent. Itauma will be back better than ever.

@boxing_ts I think itauma looked like the hype around him was warranted in the 1st 5 rounds ,great hand speed ,good balance, fluid combinations, but it should of been obvious to him to ease up ,and box stop putting so much into trying to stop this iron man ,simply wrong tactics.

@boxing_ts Itauma's problem is everything had been too easy for him so far. All it took was a brick headed Croatian to expose his limitations. I've never seen somebody fatigue so spectacularly before, especially from a position of total control. It should be a valuable learning experience

Sean M 的头像
Sean M13 天前

@boxing_ts BD also told him it was round 7 when it was 6 so… Also, get your point but anything BJS says should be taken with a pinch of salt. Itauma literally said he can’t recall sparring 12 rounds. He has stamina and composure issues, it’s not complicated.

Tom Gray 的头像
Tom Gray13 天前

@boxing_ts I've seen countless corners get the round wrong. Big deal. And it's a weird one for Saunders to make up on the spot. We don't believe Saunders, but we take a bored/ almost flippant Moses saying "I don't know if I've done 12" as verbatim. Let's see what comes out in the wash.

Sean M 的头像
Sean M13 天前

@boxing_ts No corner is above criticism, Tom. It’s just gaslighting to claim those raising concerns as ‘negative’. There are real issues there that everyone can see, including Itauma ignoring his coaches instructions.

Tom Gray 的头像
Tom Gray13 天前

I never said corners were above criticism. I'm pointing out the trend. Negative does better clicks than positive. It's the same every week. I'm not saying yourself, but people are too fond of latching onto a narrative without knowing the facts. I've seen that Moses interview posted and disected dozens of times. Didn't see the Saunders one once. And I don't do gaslighting.

Sean M 的头像
Sean M13 天前

@boxing_ts Fair enough and definitely agree that many are overly negative. I’m more interested now in seeing how they rebuild Itauma and improve him. There were many positives from Sat night and if they are realistic with his rebuild, I think we will have a formidable fighter.

Tom Gray 的头像

@boxing_ts Yeah, me, too. The physical fireworks are there in abundance, mate. If it were me, I'd go down the British, Commonwealth and European route through 2027. After that, take on a world level opponent in 2028.

Sean M 的头像
Sean M13 天前

@boxing_ts That would be the perfect approach and at his age he has time. He actually made a believer out of me Sat despite the loss. What a talent! Things to work on and if his coaching team get it right, he could be a dominant world champion in the future.

@boxing_ts Billy is full of crap so it's hard to know what he's saying is true or not But one thing that is true (and anyone with common sense can see) is that Ben is a fraud who couldn't give good clear instructions in the corner, and Itauma should leave him for a better, proper coach

Tom Gray 的头像
Tom Gray13 天前

@boxing_ts Fabio has since confirmed it. The UK is literally the only boxing community that pisses on trainers from a high height whenever possible. I don't endorse it. I think it stinks. Davison and his camp have had PLENTY of success.

Dylan 的头像
Dylan13 天前

@boxing_ts The Americans do it too. Nothing new. As for why certain trainers get it more than others, it's because sometimes there are very valid reasons for the criticism. Especially in Davison's case

@boxing_ts I wondered if MI was using kidology with his claim that he couldn't recall doing 12 rounds. Because I'd be extremely worried, if a 21 year old genuinely couldn't remember stuff he'd done in training.

@boxing_ts Nope, Round 3 (I've posted it) and Round 6, there are clear instructions to drop pace. You'll believe the shit you see on here because there's that much of it. I'm not blaming you for that.

@boxing_ts Moses and Ben D were convinced that hergovic wouldn't be able to take the punches, Ben should of told him to have a couple of easy rounds and stop loading up on every punch. The lad punched himself out. He'll forever be kicking himself for not pacing himself

Tom Gray 的头像
Tom Gray13 天前

@boxing_ts You clearly hear Ben saying "flash one, threaten one. You ain't gotta load up, just drop (the left hand to the body) in." That's all conducive of keeping a slow pace. Moses is the one doing the fighting.

Tom Gray 的头像
Tom Gray13 天前

@Budabuza @boxing_ts Nope. Round 3. Also mentions "control the pace" in Round 6. He taks about pushing Hrgovic around with threats. That's your feet and your presence. He's not telling him to load up, quite the opposite.
