Married Women Deserve Equal Voting Rights The SAVE Act makes it more difficult and expensive for tens of millions of married women who changed their name to cast their vote. The SAVE Act will require these women to obtain a passport to vote, which costs them $1,500 more in today’s dollars over their voting lifetime. The SAVE Act is about proof of citizenship not voter ID. There have been only 68 cases of non-citizens voting in the past 40 years. Non-citizens voting is not an issue. This is all about voter suppression in this case against women, especially women who have registered to vote as Republicans who are more likely to change their names when they marry.
