Smash ultimate hasn’t had an update in almost 5 years and that game is still going strong competitively

true, jojo all star battle r got brutalized by its bad online, but the discord communities are thriving with parsec and modding capability is constantly evolving

Max while I agree with the sentiment there’s a huge problem here. This was developed as a “game as a service” it’s not a retail release. There is an extremely likely possibility that this game will disappear completely because of it 3rd strike, Darkstalkers Melty Blood, all still have physical or non-server dependent copies for us to play. This has nothing of the sort. Riot pulls the plug, that’s it it’s game over

The game is dead because the roster will never get what we really wanted to see. You can say the community can keep it alive, but the whole issue is that we are stuck with characters who are not the fighters we wanted to see.

The fact that Vampire Savior is still going strong to this day. And only now did they ever get mainstage at both japan and vegas. AND IT WAS THE MOST HYPE TOP 8 EVER AT THE EVENT.

The very existence of the Smash Melee community, despite Nintendo's own efforts to kill it, proves that a fighting game's true worth can be seen in what happens after it's time has passed.

The issue is, the majority of fighting games are at least decent, well packaged products, 2XKO was "getting there" but it still had cracks on it's structure, don't get me wrong, I loved 2XKO, but as a Fighting Game product, it's not great.

I mean hes not wrong, Melee is the best example, that game has been called dead multiple times and still has an active community.

the thing is, with league having 170+ characters on the side, 2xko just feels it didnt got even a glipse of the potential it had

Original Melty Blood AACC has been "dead" for 15 years. And I'm sure if I join a Community Server I'm going to find matches even faster than queueing for modern games. You don't need a game to be "alive" to play it, you just need to want to play it.

I heart Justice predicted the future.

Didn't your genius ass say that free to play is the future of fighting games

Ironically this announcement might make me finally pick it up and try The biggest deterrent for me as a casual was having to grind to unlock the base roster

I'm so glad the devs were allowed to make some of the changes the game needs for longevity like unifying the matchmaking queues. This should be the easiest "dead" game one to recommend and onboard people into, because 1) it's free, 2) has great netcode, crossplay and 3) team play

Waiting for the captain America sitting thumbnail with Max’s face loool

The worst is that they are stopping putting characters that DESERVED to be there. I hope it gets modded soon at this point. It's such a shame

hottest take: for new games, riot should get away from the league IP entirely (valorant best example) the league community (myself included) is a torrent that pushes out casuals but sucks in those that love it my full thoughts:

The company behind this game has been gone for decades. It's got a lovely little community over its absurd, silly gameplay. There's even been patched ROMs for better tournament play.

New FGC doesn’t have time to hold on to games after they “die”. Meanwhile Smash players still drag mini tube TVs to events and play on the floor.

Wait… you can still play previously released video games? Crazy take.

This shit was more into selling u hell expensive skins, the name its sht why dont call it lol and someting, and the champions selection its ok but not good ... also personaly im getting tired of fighting games with largue combos im missing old games were 5 to 7 hits and you are dead

I am sorry but don't agree. 2XKO is too linear of a game to survive. Now if there are mods that change the game maybe... but again. If developer makes a mod and no one plays it did they ever make a mod to begin with?

Some of the coolest cats I ever met were Vampire Savior savants. It takes real love to be insanely good at a game that’s been “dead” for decades. Talking about their game over some beers at Combo Breaker 3 years ago was a real pleasure; and I’m a Street Fighter/Guilty gear guy.

Well said Max, glad you also get the picture that this isn’t the end, but rather a new beginning.

WE NEED FINAL FANTASY DISSIDIA TOURNAMENT TO BRING BACK THE GOAT OF FF FIGHTING GAMES!

I dropped the game when the roster was locked. If they wanted the game to survive they could have tried other things. They didn't.

Sads news, because this game would've had the most insane character roster in gaming history. As a LOL player i still love the game in visuals but as a causal its hard getting my friends, the people i want to play with to indeed play. And ranking well thats a whole other story

I love playing the last blade 2 and samurai shodown 4 haha

AA fighting games that don't cost 60 dollars (like Avatar Legends), are more sustainable for FGC than free to play experiences. Brawlhalla and Killer Instinct 2013 are more the exception rather than the rule.

@TSM_Leffen Imma say something real shitty. But it is very easy to say that, when you live in a country where the genre as a whole is popular. Fgc ppl in America, Europe and Japan talking about playing a dead game like it can actualy die in these regions.

With any luck, the modding community is going to get to work adding content once support is completely dropped.

Unless its unplayable, its not dead. SF2 isnt getting updates. MvC2 isnt getting updates. Blazblue... well Blazblue is but you know what I mean lol. If you like a game, cool. Its not like Smash Bros Melee is "dead". People are way too FOMO and shit.

Shill mode activated

Massive riot fan. Never even knew this game existed
