I have an idea that could really help make the game more immersive. When you shoot enemies from up close - like with the shotgun - add some blood on the hands and the gun.

Another sick ass looking indie game that I look up on steam and it turns out I've already wishlisted it and now I can do nothing but continue to wait lol
