Allah just means “God” in Arabic. Different religions use the word, even if their understanding of God is different. Islam is still an extreme religion to. Muslims are far more compassionate than the religion they follow.

I think you have it backwards. Islam is far more compassionate than the the people who follow it and it boils down to culture/race, I'd argue. You can cherry pick any religion, but the people who follow it define its public image. There are Buddhist/Hindus that are all about peace and love that slaughter Muslims on command. The Crusades showed no mercy/ The Europeans mass slaughtered the Americas in the name of escaping "religious persecution" does it ever get attributed to Christianity and give it a bad rep? The first genocide of Christians in MENA was at the hands of a jewish King in Yemen and we have watched 100 years of jewish persecution/slaughter/disposes of the two other "Abrahamic" most people still blame "zionest" which is a political ideology rather than a religious one and give judiasm a pass. I understand your beef with Islam but the others aren't just innocent, they just don't get what they have historically done attached to their religion like Muslims do.

I think we need to separate crimes committed in the name of a religion from the religion itself. I know every religion has extremists, and I’m not blaming an entire religion for everything its followers have done.

My issue with Islam is different. There are violent ideas within the religion itself, like the punishment for apostasy and others. I used to be Muslim, so I know what Islam is supposed to look like, and I also know how Muslims tend to sanitize ..

the problematic parts. The texts in the Quran and Hadith haven’t changed. You can argue about how they should be interpreted today, but you can’t pretend those passages simply don’t exist.
