Scenario 1 of 3 that I go over in my latest YouTube video “how to defend the walk to 2nd base with a runner on 3rd” For this specific scenario here’s a couple key points: •Get the ball back to the pitcher quickly. This forces the runner on third to commit and either break for home or retreat to the bag. •As pitcher is getting the ball back in the circle, peek to make sure the runner from 3rd went back to bag. •Allow the runner rounding 1st to get close to the 2nd baseman. The closer she is, the quicker the tag can be applied, allowing for an immediate throw home if the runner from third attempts to score. My biggest takeaway is at the end of this video. Let the girls try and make some plays. Get them to be competitive. The more they do it, the more comfortable they will get at it. Don’t just give up a free base- make the other team work for it.

When are you starting your load? —Most of the games best hitters start there load & get into a ready position to hit before the ball leaves the pitchers hand. —Starting your load when the pitchers hand breaks is a good cue to go off of. Every single pitcher has to do this to throw the ball. Once there hand breaks every pitchers time to plate is close in timing. Giving you a consistent time to start. —Being on time towards the opposite field gap or through the middle for fastball. Gives you a chance to do damage on both pitches. The FB & Off speed. When you get into your advantage counts & have earned your fastball. 2-0, 3-0, 3-1. You can now then shift your sights over towards the pull side gap. —Hope this helps some people! #PlayerDevelopment

Behind the ball is how you get depth AND length out front. (Not one or the other) Here’s what it actually gives you: 1. You swing more connected and deeper. 2. The barrel enters earlier and stays in longer. You get both. 3. Depth behind what buys you length out front. Most guys are picking one or the other. 4. You sling the barrel through. You’re not shoving it or yanking it into the zone. 5. You actually use the ground. Behind the ball you turn. If you’re not using the ground, you’re probably sliding and pulling everything towards the ball. 6. Your bat speed becomes usable. Pushed and pulled bat speed still reads fast vs one pitch one speed. Only one of them shows up on the barrel, in the zone, on time vs pitching. — Cue for your next round: let the ball get deeper than usual, and turn behind a wall. You can scoot close to a net in front of you to get the feeling, too. Then vs moving ball. > Save this for when you need it > Send this to a hitter who needs it right now (And make sure you’re following)

You are going to love the Backpedal Pick concept. Instead of running towards the ball carrier to set your pick, do the opposite, backpedal and give ground, as the dodger approaches the pick. Backpedaling and keeping a cushion of space makes it much harder for the on-ball defender and the picker’s man to play their coverage. The Backpedal technique basically enables you to set a legal moving pick, meaning it’s a moving target, that the defense has trouble navigating. Then at the last moment, you can set your feet and can be stationary. If the on-ball defender wants to get under the pick, they can’t find an angle to get under. Also, the picker’s man struggles because they can’t easily get “outside the pick” position as the picker keeps retreating and giving ground. It’s almost like a legal moving seal! The backpedal pick technique is deadly around the goal line, making it impossible to get under and much harder for the picker’s guy to switch or jump it! One of the biggest keys to 2-man game is great pick setting and universally, kids don’t know how to set and adjust picks. I think you’ll find this pick technique will make a difference in your offense!

Tee on the inside half. Hit it back up the middle. I’d do this drill a lot to groom my bat path to be short & inside the baseball. If you can consistently be inside the baseball it will allow you to trust your self to let the baseball travel deep towards the plate before you make a decision to swing. When you can let the ball travel deeper to make a decision to swing you swing at better pitches…. When you swing at better pitches & track the ball longer you square up more baseballs….
