Oh, you mean back when the Oscars actually rated movies based on good story writing and not some stupid DEI list? Back when they had better sense? Yeah, I miss that too

The score by James Horner was one of the finest of the last forty years. He should have won an Oscar for it, but was robbed.

Just a little side note.... real thistles are covered in thorns that make touching them a painful experience.

Some context: the boy had just lost his father and brother. This was their funeral. He tried to stay strong and hold back his tears. The girl didn't know him, but she still walked over to comfort him. That's when he finally broke down. Beautiful scene.

Mel Gibson should of made The Odyssey.

"Thistle make you feel better"

James Horner's music made this film.

Mel Gibson has made my favorite movies

More powerful than anything in the new Odyssey that's for sure...

He kept the purple thistle flower. Years later he showed her he had it dried up and kept it

And this moment:

Deeper meaning of Thistles. It symbolizes resilience, fierce protection, and the ability to overcome adversity.

Iconic. As soon as those Uilleann Pipes play. It’s hits you. The Irish pipes were the BeST choice for the films music. They reach right inside of you, just as she passes him the thistle. It’s a pure moment of kindness. The Uilleann Pipes release that emotion, perfectly.

Amazing performance from unknown child actors. Make me wonder what Mel told these kids right before "Action"?

The scene is great, but by God, this soundtrack it's a masterpiece.

The real moment was when he showed the pressed flower to her some 20 years later.

Totally. I was very taken with the intentions and imagery, and has remained with me since. Saw the First run (May 19, 1995). THIS...is storytelling.

My favorite stand alone movie. (LOTR best movies of all time though)

We are lucky that we had such films 🎥🎬🤗 great era!

Love it... The movie and the music..."A Gift Of A Thistle"...

I think it’s after the ride in the rain when she opens the handkerchief and sees the thistle in it.

The Secret of Roan Inish (1994)

Brave heart. What a gem

Young Murron gave the thistle to young William. When you see the hands exchange the thistle, you actually are viewing the adults hands of William and Murron . Hidden gem in my favorite movie. 💜

Love this movie! So good, Mel Gibson so fine! 🥰

Insane! I just watched this again last night! I get goosebumps every single time.

Horner’s score was so good here.

Beeindruckend... 👍

This scene gets me 👀’s sweating every dang time.

And the title is?

Best soundtrack of all time

Kissing is much more powerful than sex. It’s love expressed without words.
