Some thoughts (backed by data) on the boom in offensive efficiency across the NBA on this month’s episode of Islands in the League presented by DraftKings Sportsbook. Meant to be a discussion. I want to hear your thoughts!

@DKSportsbook They call fouls for almost any body-once you’re in foul trouble, it’s really hard to contain guys-that plus they allow 3 steps now, traveling, carry, etc. can’t contest jumpers, landing space-mark price would be closer to curry w/the same protections

@DKSportsbook Interesting take there

@DKSportsbook the need to guard the 3 absolutely opens up the floor for creators and allows more drives. BUT you literally cannot touch these guys while they go to the rim now, i think officiating has an effect on the offense too

@DKSportsbook So … I wonder why more teams don’t pack zones more? If 3pt efficiency hasn’t improved, why sell out on them and leave the paint/rim vulnerable? I suspect I know why but ..

@OldManAndThree @DKSportsbook Need to allow some time of hand checking and don’t reward players for flailing on drives

@DKSportsbook I’m all I’m hearing is that teams are scoring more in every category, which makes sense considering teams are scoring more than ever overall. Spacing, yes, but maybe teams aren’t playing defense like they used to and maybe fouls are called from a lot less contact these days?

@DKSportsbook This brand of basketball is annoying to watch. Bring back the early 90s NBA

@DKSportsbook I haven’t watched one non-hometown team game this season. Used to watch other teams all season long and loved it. Aesthetically, it’s become the most unwatchable major sport. Sad to see it continue to get worse and worse. Layups and threes with every game seemingly in the 120’s ^

@DKSportsbook I love the spacing but because of it, we need to allow hand-checking again. No hand-checking has allowed a path straight to the rim for most skilled players. I'd like to see less calls on players playing defense and stopping the drives with their body/hands a bit more.
