The salty tea is drunk in entire UP muslim families. I am from Kanpur and nearly have friends all over the state and whenever I had tea, salt was added. This is common in UP muslim families.

I didn’t know that . Interesting information . Thanks

He said the water is salty in his place. From that I guessed Agra at first 😀

But Namkeen Chay to nahi per jati hogi , I guess in UP .. in Kashmir 2 types of Namkeen Tea is taken : Sheer Chaay (Pink Tea) and Doad Chaay (Milk Tea) and is a Delicacy

Pani khara hoga to chai bhi namkeen hi banegi.

He could’ve been from a place where the water is salty (hence the tea got salty too) and then moved to Bareilly for pickpocket business.

Yes that’s a possibility too .. but I want to check whether people in UP really drink Namkeen tea in any area..

At many places people put pink of salt even in normal Lipton vali tea Even some Dogras put little salt in normal chai

Oh is it .. I didn’t know that …

In UP, I’ve seen people make black tea with a pinch of jaljira or something salty mixed in. It’s surprisingly popular in summers - maybe because it helps replenish body salts. I also tasted a salty black tea in the Little Rann of Kutch, where we were visiting the salt fields. A local family working there offered it to us.

Superb info .. would taste crazy although I never drank Sheer Chaay due to Phull in it (bone extract) , I loved Nun Chaay !

Sheer Chai Noon Chai both are 😍😍😍

Namkeen chai gets served in most Irani hotels… we had those in Bhopal as well.

“ Irani Hotels “ , you made a great connect . Since Kashmir had Iranian (Persian culture) due to trade and invasions hence this Namkeen Chai would have come from there

I think you forgot what Alam said. He said his village had khara paani aka salty water hence tea made with that water was salty in taste. Hence he drinks namkeen chai and it reminds him taste he had at his hometown. Where did he say he usedto drink nsmkeen chai?

May be is is Kashmiri Pandit but 1990 exodus made him to leave and settle there and treated it as his place

Not नमकीन चाय…pretty sure the reference was to the *salty water* which lead to नमकीन चाय. To me , it could be any coastal town. But then, in part 2, he references बरैली. More such trivia questions = another Dhurandhar watch party?😉 as if we need excuses to watch it again…

Yes.. in UP there are some places where you get “Khara” paani I used to hate it whenever I visited in my childhood so a person was kept to pull water from the well to get “Meetha” paani

In Bareilly, population is largely Hindu (63.64%) and Muslim (34.54%). While there is no official statistic on residents, the region has been used by authorities to lodge detainees from Jammu and Kashmir.

He was a KP, who got displaced to Bareilly, and had to pickpocket to sustain his living.

Interesting never knew about this!

Yes in most parts of India people cannot imagine a Salty Tea . Kashmiri had several types of Tea with different Leaves . Sweet Normal tea (Lipton Tea) Mogul Chai (without milk) Mogul Chai with Kesar , Nimbu et Dodh chai ( milk Tea sweet) Salty Sheer Chai (Pink Tea) Nun Chai (Salt tea with Milk)

Wow amazing 😮

Yes, my nani in meerut used to have namak in her chai:)

He just told ki uske gaon ka pani khara tha to chai bhi namkeen bnti thi.. so it was not a recipe like in Kashmir but bebasi

When he said Khara paani, I thought maybe rajasthan at first. Also, I thought it was not real because hamza was still new and even asks from where he is and he avoids that. Maybe entire premise was a test.

Yes. It's pretty common in UP, especially Lucknow. I wrote an article on this. Here is my blog on pink tea of Lucknow which very few people know about

Tibetans Drink Salted Yak Butter Tea As Well As People In Other Himalayan Regions It's Perfect For Cold Climate In A Salt Depleted Area Why Alam Bhai Likes it ? Possibly To Fit Into A Kashmiri Disguise 🤷♂️

He said salty because of water..

I don’t think there is salty water in Kashmir🤔

Many in UP does that

He says im a pick pocketer from Bareily. A small timer picked by raw dsnt make sense. Maybe he was elsewhere and did something big to get noticed

In Haryana too... we drink noon (salt) wala chai

Maybe he was a kashmiri, doing pocketmaari in Bareilly

He said he was a paakitmaar from Bareilly, coz that was his last Indian Identity He didn't say that was his ancestral origin He may have been brought up in Kashmir The 1990s exodus was the last one for KPs afaik, not the first

@rightwingchora He said the water there is salty which makes the tea salty.

He said where he lived the water was khara so he got used to drinking salty tea.. so it was more of an acquired taste than a custom.

@RapperPandit I think he was a Kashmiri pandit his family was killed in Kashmir he moved to bareilly and started being a pickpocket

Whole Braj area including Agra-Mathura,has salty water…..when he said the same in first part,I never thought it’s Kashmir because Kashmiri people purposely make Nun chai, the paani there isn’t khara at all.

Ppl in kanpur drink adrak ki chai with a pinch of salt

Main Bareilly se hi hu. Namkeen Chay to nahi peete hain yaha

No. Could have said Agra, they have salty ground water. Bareilly doesn't.

In Sikkim they drink namakeen chai. Apparently it keeps the leeches away..

He says chai is namkeen because of hard water not the Kashmiri noonchai you are talking about

People drink black tea with lemon & black salt all over UP
