So I guess this basketball hoop had been on this fence for a very long time. Very clearly the owners of the fence, and the house backing on to that area, had had enough of the sound of basketballs being bounced against their fence, and the sound of under inflated basketballs being bounced at all times of the day. There is a state park by me that closes when the sun goes down for safety reasons. I always see people find a way in there to do what they need to do. No matter what they do mayor be add a gate or even have more law enforcement, there’s no stopping it. These people are sitting in their car. They see people walking in and out of the woods while they are sitting there eating and chatting. The people going in and out look so out of place, like they are in a zombie apocalypse. If I saw people just struggling in and out of the woods, looking dirty, no flashlights at all. I would think they are up to something. Especially for the hikers making their way back and hearing rumbling and voices I would be creeped out too.

I’m getting ready to head home in the morning, but I would really like to send a shout out to Hank Smith (follow him by the way) He sent me a DM asking if I had any interest in bringing my family to see the holy land. I enthusiastically accepted, and booked my tickets. Hank is funny, engaging, and concerned about everyone he is responsible for. Most people don’t realize that he is a heavy hitter, and has a podcast called “hearHIM” that gets between 500,000 and 1 million listeners per week. He is a professor of religion at BYU, and it’s almost impossible to get him into his class. He’s extremely humble, and a heck of a nice guy. If it weren’t for him, I would not have seen what I have seen over the past two weeks. I’m grateful to him and Bountiful Travel, because now I know what it’s like to race in the Jordanian desert with Bedouins in Toyota Hiluxes. Thanks, brother. Let’s do another one.

The past year has seen me have a renaissance, in the truest sense… I won’t go into details now but will at some point before long. What has brought so much happiness to my life and those around me this past year has been my falling back in love with sport. Cycling has, and always will be, my number one. Yet I’d forgotten that I simply love sport, not for results but for the sheer joy of doing it, I’d completely forgotten that the health of my mind is intrinsically connected to the health of my body. I’ve rediscovered the love I had for sport that existed before the world of professional cycling took over in the way it did. I’ve been pushing myself and trying new things this past year, indifferent to the results, just out having fun and at times going deeper than I thought I was capable of anymore. Last week I got on a TT bike for the first time in a decade, Factor Bikes built me a bike, I’ve been looking at it for two years and decided it was time to get fitted, getting back on it felt like going home. Anyway, the long and the short of this is that it’s inspired me to create a club to inspire and be inspired. A community for us to share our love for getting out there and doing it, because I’ve realized that although I spend most of my sporting life on my own I derive the most pleasure when feeling part of something. It’s in its early days, I’ve called it Sporting Club CHPT3 aka SCC3, I’d love you to check it out and join. It’s still in its infancy, but I hope it’s going to grow into something that will inspire you as much as me.

I have kept these chicken indoors for a long time. Today, I opened the gate for them to go out, find what they want, and eat on their own. I had to literally chase them out. They would run around but avoided going out of the gate, until I gate up. I think in their ‘minds’, I love them a lot to be keeping them locked up. Many Ugandans are like this; so afraid of freedom, because they are so used to servitude (oppression) and the crumbs falling off the table of the oppressor. Anyone trying to lead them to the gate must labour so hard.
