Inviscid base solver (Euler) fitted with LES closure, NOT full Navier-Stokes. Probably out of scope for what I was seeking to do here Once I switched from Rusanov to HLLC the shocks were relatively more accurate

If anyone in the industry has feedback this is the place to let me know I still need to validate against real world with concrete measurements

This doesn't have any baffles yet, but...

Beautiful

After talking with some people and getting careful feedback, I will be rolling out some improvements soon, testing against real measurements and yoloing the launch

@Thee_Grixxly That's cool as fuck!

@Thee_Grixxly Thank you!

I used roughly the frozen gamma of standard gun propellants in chamber conditions, cited from the US Army Research Laboratory

It's like you can just anything, bro

Now make it differentiable and you’ve got a generative suppressor design pipeline 🙃

Damn that's sick

I want this so much

Does it take into consideration the ambient air pressure preexisting in front of the bullet, also? Each subsequent shot heating up the suppressor should reduce the air occupying the space and reduce friction moving through the baffles allowing faster expansion behind it.

Yes, the grid is initialized to ambient conditions equally everywhere But you're right, this only does one bullet from cold, and I haven't made it run following shots yet

You know I gotta follow now. Stuff like this is what keeps me up at night.

Neeeeat. I guess it's effectively creating shock diamonds.

How well does it predict real-world supressors?

suppressor development is about to boom with this.

If you can have the air pressure feed back on itself, like a Tesla valve. You might be able to counter act the velocity drop. You would have to 3D print it tho. Some services offer titanium which would be bullet proof. It is actually stronger printed than smelted.

Cool stuff, when do you think it'd be available publicly?

I’ve been setting up an openfoam simulation last few weeks to accomplish the same goal. Dm me would love to chat / help out where I can

@d0tslash If you can incorporate Plasma Flows this would be helpful. Plasma modeling is extremely similar to the burning gasses you’re looking for. The old Delta V Rocket modeling has been used in many popular designs.

from roblox games to the firearms industry.

That cool. Is that three.js?

Yes three.js WebGL and WebGPU

tuned suppressors. I want one that sounds like a fart. take my money.

You mean I don't have to print 20 variations on a suppressor and blow them up and melt them down to find out their weaknesses? There's a mass grave of plastics out back from all this destruction and you're saying it's no longer needed? I guess it's just durability tests now

Cant wait to see it launch and run every model I can through it!

Simulation looks more like its just modeling the wake of the bullet. Not the massive explosion that's actually driving it. You'll actually often see some blast ahead of the bullet, even after a suppressor.

The explosion is modeled (high-pressure gas injection at real chamber pressures), but the delivery is smoothed for numerical stability, so yeah bore leakage isn't captured

beyond bore leakage, the gas itself will certainly be pushing past the bullet once you enter the suppressor. The gas velocity is usually drastically higher than the bullet (if grt is believed). The quantities and effects of which, however, I must leave to those more qualified.

Im definitely modeling this incorrectly. Ill have some good improvements by the next version Thanks for the feedback brother

Can it run non-axisymmetric complex designs?

Yes, any arbitrary geo

@SciencePew check this out

@SciencePew I would be interested to see how this compared to your data on any given silencer.

Very smart I'm proud of you

@Ch3f_3DP Can we change variables like powder charge?

@Ch3f_3DP Right now there’s a few different calibers and then there’s specific grains/pressures to pick from, no custom-setting numbers right now though

@Ch3f_3DP Really like what you’re doing here

this is so damn cool

Might want to introduce a heat factor for the base material heating and cooling with a bending of same... also a reduction of the same as it travels towards the end.

Material conductivities are already in, but yeah there's no deforming that occurs because of it, good feedback And the thermodynamics naturally capture cooling as it nears the exit. Just nothing crazy happening structure-wise

Is it a real airflow simulation? Or just visualization , also what software is this🤔

DM if you want to talk this over with the nation’s leading firearms patent attorney. Or follow the clues in my profile.

Super dope

THANK YOU! I've been wishing this existed in fusion for 3 years
