Today, Doris Ogala, the AAC governorship candidate in Abia State, visited the office of the Abia State Structures for Signage and Advertisement Agency (ABSSAA) to confirm that the new, crazy hike in campaign permit fees by Governor Alex Otti and his government is true! I struggle to believe that Governor Alex Otti would roll out such a harsh, undemocratic policy. N200m campaign fee for presidential candidates, N150m for governorship, N100m for senators? The joy I felt watching this cannot be measured. De Sam Mbakwa led a legacy that every progressive Igbo man should appreciate. The Icon is no more and one of the numerous ways to appreciate him is this kind of visit by every Igbo man mostly political leaders. While we do so we keep reminding our children the importance of having a leader like De Sam Mbakwa who cares so much for his people. His Excellency Dr. Alex Otti, OFR, paid a visit to the wife of late Sam Mbakwe yesterday. It was a joyful and emotional moment for Lady Mbakwe as she expressed deep appreciation and delight. According to her, she is grateful for the numerous forms of support Governor Otti has consistently provided quietly over time, beyond the two public visits he has made since assuming office. She noted that her happiness is not based solely on the personal support she has received, but also on the visible progress and achievements she has been hearing about, been recorded by the Otti administration in Abia State. History will never forget Governor Alex Otti. He commissioned the newly constructed Omenuko Bridge after more than 45years of dilapidation. Many lives were lost on the old bridge, which was built by the colonial masters and left to deteriorate over time. About 17 schoolchildren, who were on their way to write their exams, were involved in an accident, fell off the bridge, and died. Sad. For years, the bridge was used as a campaign tool by past administrations. They sought votes with promises of reconstruction, yet nothing was done. The late Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai, whose two children were once involved in an accident when a car fell off the narrow bridge, told His Excellency, Governor Otti, that he would dance on the day the bridge was finally commissioned. Thanks to Governor Otti, it’s no longer just shouting, only visible results. Since he won the election, it has been work, work, work, 365 days a year. One wonders how he does it. In 8 years, Abia may become Nigeria’s industrial hub, a foremost investment destination, and Nigeria’s best governed state. Governor Otti doesn’t need radio. He doesn’t need awards. He doesn’t need newspaper adverts. Propagandists are out of market in Abia. When the leadership is right and doing the right things, even the blind will see it.
