Today, Doris Ogala, the AAC governorship candidate in Abia State, visited the office of the Abia State Structures for Signage and Advertisement Agency (ABSSAA) to confirm that the new, crazy hike in campaign permit fees by Governor Alex Otti and his government is true! I struggle to believe that Governor Alex Otti would roll out such a harsh, undemocratic policy. N200m campaign fee for presidential candidates, N150m for governorship, N100m for senators? History will never forget Governor Alex Otti. He commissioned the newly constructed Omenuko Bridge after more than 45years of dilapidation. Many lives were lost on the old bridge, which was built by the colonial masters and left to deteriorate over time. About 17 schoolchildren, who were on their way to write their exams, were involved in an accident, fell off the bridge, and died. Sad. For years, the bridge was used as a campaign tool by past administrations. They sought votes with promises of reconstruction, yet nothing was done. The late Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai, whose two children were once involved in an accident when a car fell off the narrow bridge, told His Excellency, Governor Otti, that he would dance on the day the bridge was finally commissioned.
